This blog is no longer active and has moved to a shiny new home here:
Game Developers Conference Europe
I’ve been wanting to go to more events, be they expo’s, conferences, game jams etc and I’ve always wanted to go to things like Games Developers Conference or Develop Conference to see professional talks and learn about what goes on in the industry. So this year I thought ‘let’s do it!’ and I applied to volunteer at GDC Europe, and I got accepted!!
I’m a bit nervous that I might be awkward or do something stupid 😛 but I’m looking forward to it, and hopefully it’ll be a good experience!
Keep Calm and Game Jam
We heard about a 48 hour game jam that would be happening not far from Draw & Code’s office at Liverpool John Moores University. We couldn’t participate since it was mid-week, but then they asked us to judge! We may not be the most qualified people to judge game development, but we’re big gamers at D&C and we’ve talked about making a game for ages, we’ve just never had the time! Continue reading
Gangnam Style!
A cheeky little snippet of a character I’ve been working on 😛
I has a Flickr!
I have collected a lot of photos over the years from various travels, and since I’ve been getting more interested in photography recently I thought I’d store them all on Flickr where people might actually see them!
Here are just a few that I like 🙂

New York 2014 Travel Video
When I went to New York last year I thought I’d film some more of the city, and have a go at editing a video ‘travel journal’. I didn’t end up filming nearly enough of the city as I could have since there was so much to get distracted by, so it’s just a small collection, but watching it back really makes me want to go again!
The music’s pretty cheesy.. I’m pretty bad at finding good music for things like this! 😛
Draw & Code Office
Until recently we shared an office with a couple of other different company’s, but as with happily successful businesses they’ve expanded and moved out to bigger offices. So we decided to make use of the new extra space and do some re-shuffling. Since I had some ‘down time’ at this point, I created some renders to visualise how we could potentially re-arrange the office furniture.
I quite enjoyed this, and used it as a chance to learn more about rendering and improve my technique 🙂
Throne Room – WIP 4
So unfortunately I didn’t had a lot of time to work on this project because there was a deadline at Draw & Code that meant a few of us had to work over time, including at the weekend. So I wasn’t even close to getting it finished for the deadline!
Since my last update, I did some more sculpting, and started on some texturing. Here’s a Maya render of where it got to:
Exciting things for Midnight Polygon!!
So a few things are in the works for my side project Midnight Polygon, the first is the Light Night festival, where there are all sorts of exhibition and performances at different venues across Liverpool. Midnight Polygon will be collaborating with Draw & Code and Draw The Line to display some really cool immersive technology – augmented reality art and projection mapping – and have some fun artsy workshops! It’ll be at 92 Degrees Coffee from 5pm-11pm so if you’re in Liverpool on 15th May, feel free to pop in!
You can find is on the programme here 🙂
We’re also looking into taking part in arts and crafts fairs, and holding workshops in the future, so stay tuned!
Throne Room – WIP 3 – Sculpting
So finally posting an update about the Throne Room challenge that I mentioned in January! I’ve been working on all the details of the room (which are many) and really get working on my sculpting skills! Continue reading
