East Kent Strokes is a support group for stroke survivors in Kent (Registered Charity No 1122466) which is run by stroke survivors and their carers.

We here to help you and your carer to live your lives to the full – there is life after a stroke.

As a group we arrange visits on the River Medway, the Kent & Sussex Railway from Tenterden to Northiam, The Chapel Down Vineyard, and have regular monthly activities which include golfing and gliding. This year we’re trying to arrange sailing, bowling (on a green), horse riding and carriage driving.

And of course we meet once a month in four or five different venues around Kent for lunch, situated in Ashford, Challock, Whitstable, Old Romney, Broadstairs and Bareham. Each pub has its own day of the week and which week in the month.  We also have a coffee morning every Friday in Canterbury, and are just starting another in Thanet.

Are you a wheel chair user?

We are very conscious that some survivors have difficulty getting out and about. For this reason, we have two purpose built cars that members can rent for the day to get them to our lunches – or anywhere that their families wish to take you. We also have a ‘stroke mobile’ that flies the awareness flag by visiting venues and publicizing stroke issues.

What have we done?

We’ve been going since early 2001 and have helped many survivors to meet others with shared interests. We have helped some to get their driving licences back, many survivors and carers to get out of their homes and back into the big wide world outside. The list of activities is growing helping members to improve their confidence.

If you or a loved one has suffered a stroke get in contact with us.

We are now Publishers!

We found an excellent book that gives exercises, lessons, etc. for those stroke patients who are aphasic (who have lost their language). We strongly recommend A Stroke in the Family by Valerie Eaton Griffith to all carers, friends and relatives of those unfortunates who are speechless.
