The phenomenal run of big carp captures in the UK has continued this week with another 60lb fish being banked, this time by angler Nathan Jackson and his incredible 61lb 8oz common.

:a[Fishing a week-long session]{href='https://www.anglingtimes.co.uk/advice/tips/how-to-fish-long-holiday-sessions-for-carp-adam-penning/' } with some friends, Nathan was finding the action pretty slow, as were others around the lake, but a single bite towards the :a[end of the booking]{href='https://www.anglingtimes.co.uk/advice/tips/the-edge-you-need-on-pressured-holiday-booking-only-waters-adam-penning/' } made the session unforgettable.

Two of Nathan's friends were in the swim with him at the time and decided to take to the hill behind him for a better perspective of the fish he was attached to.

"Nath, you’ve got the big common on, we can see it,” they said.

"A few minutes later, the fish popped up :a[a rod length out]{href='https://www.anglingtimes.co.uk/tackle-reviews/rods/best-carp-rods/' }, and that’s when I realized they weren't lying to me. That was more than 100lb better than the nearest chaser, with Jamie now going through to the final at Hayfield Lakes on August 31.

A holiday is one of the most subjective choices a person can make, regardless of whether you're an angler or not. People want different things from their holiday, but there are a few things everyone should consider before booking a fishing holiday. Will you be going alone, with fishing friends, or with family? This is important because it will dictate the type of accommodation you're looking for. If it's just anglers, a secluded cottage near the river would be perfect. But if you've got children, they might get bored, so a holiday park might be better.

The type of angling you enjoy will also play a big part in your holiday choice. There's little point in booking a holiday on the coast with only sea angling available if you prefer coarse fishing. Similarly, if you enjoy specimen carp fishing, a pond full of small silvers is probably not going to inspire you during your stay.
