NYY Starting Pitcher #45

Gerrit Cole (elbow) threw 43 pitches to live hitters on Thursday.

Cole said he felt good after the outing and the next steps are to recover and potentially start a rehab assignment soon depending on how his recovery goes. The initial hope was for Cole to return sometime in June, and that could remain a possibility if he is indeed able to begin a rehab assignment in the next week or so.
Pete Alonso

NYM First Baseman #20

Pete Alonso (hand) has been diagnosed with a bone bruise after CT scans revealed no break.

Hey, that’s one piece of good news for the Mets. Alonso may miss a couple of games as he deals with soreness and some potential inflammation, but it appears he avoided any major injury here and should be back in the lineup soon. Even though he’s not producing at the level you expected when you drafted him, he’s too talented to leave out of your fantasy lineup once he returns.
Seiya Suzuki

CHC Left Fielder #27

Seiya Suzuki is not in the starting lineup on Thursday against the Brewers.

Pete Crow-Armstrong, who was just promoted from Triple-A, will start in center field with Cody Bellinger moving to designated hitter and Mike Tauchman to right field. It could simply be a routine day off for Suzuki. Still, it’s noteworthy that the Cubs called up Crow-Armstrong today while demoting an infielder, thereby adding another outfielder to an already full position group. Suzuki has struggled in May, slashing .209/.260/.269 in 16 games while dealing with an injury. However, he has struggled early in the season in years past and is striking out just 19 percent of the time in May, so he is continuing to make contact. It should only be a matter of time before he gets it going again.
Josh Lowe

TB Right Fielder #15

Josh Lowe (oblique) will play for Triple-A Durham this weekend as he nears a return.

The plan is for Lowe to play all weekend with Durham and, if all feels good, he could return to the Tampa Bay lineup on Tuesday against the Marlins. Lowe has now had three setbacks this season with his oblique, but the last imaging he had showed no major issues and both he and the Rays have expressed optimism that he will return next week.
Brady Singer

KC Starting Pitcher #51

Royals scratched Brady Singer from Thursday’s start due to illness.

It doesn’t seem like anything concerning for Singer long term, but he will miss today’s start against the Twins and may not pitch again until his next turn in the rotation. Daniel Lynch IV was called up from Triple-A Omaha to start in Singer’s place.
Cade Horton

Cubs top pitching prospect Cade Horton left his start for Triple-A Iowa last night with lat soreness.

The 22-year-old will go to Chicago to get checked out so the Cubs can better understand the extent of the injury. The seventh overall pick in the 2022 draft was promoted to Triple-A after four strong starts at Double-A to begin 2024. His first two Triple-A starts weren’t great, but he had been looking better of late, allowing four earned runs in 10 innings over his last two starts, striking out nine and walking two. If he’s out for an extended period, it could jeopardize a potential summer promotion to the big leagues.

CHC Left Fielder #52

Cubs recalled OF Pete Crow-Armstrong from Triple-A Iowa.

The Cubs are sending down infielder Luis Vazquez in a corresponding move, so they are not losing any outfielders from their active roster. As a result, it’s unclear how often Crow-Armstrong will play with Ian Happ, Seiya Suzuki, Cody Bellinger, and Mike Tauchman all also in the mix. Cubs manager Craig Counsell suggested that Bellinger may see more time at first base, which could be an indication that Michael Busch will see his playing time cut down; however, it will be Suzuki who sits first on Thursday.
Jesus Luzardo

According to Ken Rosenthal, Jesús Luzardo “is the single player most likely to be traded” this season.

Luzardo was a popular name in trade rumors in the offseason but was ultimately not moved. He has two more arbitration years before he becomes a free agent, so the Marlins should be able to get a decent return for him. In a year where they are not contending, it makes sense to see what they could get for the lefty, especially with Sandy Alcantara, Max Meyer, Eury Perez, Edward Cabrera, Braxton Garrett, and Ryan Weathers all able to take on a full workload in the rotation next season.
George Kirby

SEA Starting Pitcher #68

George Kirby allowed one run with eight strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision against the Astros on Wednesday.

After giving up five runs in back-to-back outings, Kirby put together an excellent start against the Astros. Three hits in the fourth would bring the only run across to score for Houston. Kirby scattered three other hits and did not walk a batter, striking out eight over his six innings of work. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 4.08 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and a 65/6 K/BB ratio across 68 1/3 innings into a start against the Athletics in Oakland on Tuesday.
Luis Gil

NYY Starting Pitcher #81

Luis Gil held the Angels to one run with nine strikeouts over eight innings to earn the win on Wednesday.

Gil was outstanding once again, holding the Angels to one run over eight frames. He allowed just two hits and two walks, giving up a solo homer to Logan O’Hoppe in the seventh inning. He struck out nine. It was the fifth consecutive start for Gil with at least six innings and no more than one run allowed. The 25-year-old right-hander will take an excellent 1.99 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and a 79/31 K/BB ratio across 63 1/3 innings into a start against the Twins in New York on Tuesday.
