Tower of God: New World goes all Agatha Christie with a good murder mystery

Posted by Shaun Walton on May 27th, 2024

I love me a good mystery, stick Poirot or Colombo on the TV and I am a happy man, and yes I know Colombo is not your traditional sleuth setup, but I adore it. Tower of God: New World is taking a leaf from the whodunits in its latest campaign; The Murder on the Express Train.

Until June 5th you get to enjoy several suspicious events, kicking it off with the the story event. Ha Jinsung and Ha Yura team up to uncover the truth behind the titular Murder on the Express Train. If you detect well enough you will rack up story points and earn special titles such as the Express Train Fixer.

Monster Hunter Now introduces Driftsmelting to take your armour to the next level

Posted by Shaun Walton on May 24th, 2024

One of the most fun parts of the Monster Hunter franchise, to me at least, is designing that perfect armour set to give you that optimal skill set you’ve been dreaming of. Unfortunately, you sometimes had to sacrifice fashion, but that won’t be a problem in Monster Hunter Now, thanks to the latest free update introducing Driftsmelting.

Driftsmelting brings with it a new menu to power up your armour. By collecting and using Drifstones, you are able to imbue your gear with massive new skills, up to a total of ten per piece. It is an incredibly exciting new system that offers everyone the opportunity to overload their gear with a host of incredibly powerful buffs.

The 2024 PlayX4 B2B is kicking off tomorrow in Ilsan, lasting until the 26th in KINTEX Hall 1, and Octopo Studio has announced that they will be making an appearance. Shooting RPG Bounty Pang will be on show as the developers seek publishing partners following a successful tech launch in February.

There are a few video game titles that even if you haven’t played them, you know the name, and in the mobile gaming sphere especially, one of those is Brawl Stars. Octopo Studios’ COO, Woohyun Kim, was one of the minds behind this hit for Supercell and is backed by 32 other talented workers as the studio is knee-deep in their first development project.

The Astral Express sets off to bring Honkai: Star Rail to real locations across the world

Posted by Shaun Walton on May 21st, 2024

After vanquishing yet another threat and adding a fine hat to their wardrobe, you’d think the crew of the Astral Express would be able to kick back after their adventures in Penacony. Clearly not though, as HoYo has announced the next leg of the Honkai: Star Rail World Tour 2024, and they are going far.

Kicking off at Anime Expo in Los Angeles from July 4th to 7th, the show will then move to the Japan Expo in Paris from the 11th to the 14th. After that, it's Gamers Con in Taipei from July 25th to the 29th, before Comic Market 104 in Japan from August 11th to 12th. From there is Koelnmesse Gamescom from the 21st to 25th, and finally Thailand Game Show 2024 from September 10th till the 20th.

Dragons rein supreme in Pokemon Unite as the Dragon Carnival kicks off

Posted by Shaun Walton on May 20th, 2024

If you were looking for the strongest type in Pokemon and asked the fanbase, I would wager most people's thoughts would turn to Dragon. They hit hard, are often powerful, and get used by some of the toughest trainers. Pokemon Unite is honouring these characters with the Dragon Carnival event.

Lasting until June 11th, so plenty of time to get involved, the Dragon Carnival is packed full of content to enjoy. There is a new quick battle to get involved with, a challenge centred over Raihan, the Hammerlocke Gym Leader, and the opportunity to grab yourself a license for one of six Dragons.

Players can take a peek into the design of Diablo Immortal's new class ahead of its release this month

Posted by Shaun Walton on May 17th, 2024

It doesn’t matter how much effort developers put into their classes, or how many special little mechanics there are; if there is one that wields two blades, I’m ignoring everything else. Diablo Immortal recently announced such a class in the shape of the Tempest, and now, we have been treated to a making-of-documentary.

Scheduled to arrive on May 23rd, The Tempest is a warrior-priest who has mastered the winds and the waters, much like its namesake. It is a highly mobile class that deals quick strikes with its two weapons, ranged attacks with knife-tipped whips, and the frankly awesome-sounding Zephyr summons.

Android users have a new option in the controller market as GameSir release the X4 Aileron

Posted by Shaun Walton on May 16th, 2024

When you are in the thick of a firefight or trying to pull off a mid-combat parkour flip through a squad of foes, sometimes touchscreen control just won’t do it for you. For those intense sessions, you could benefit from a good mobile controller, and so the rather fancy developers at GameSir have unveiled the X4 Aileron.

Despite sounding like something you would expect a fighter pilot to be zipping around in, the X4 Aileron is a rather nifty-sounding Bluetooth controller that promises an ultra-responsive connection. Whilst you can get a plug-in controller for that guaranteed speed, GameSir says that their controller features low-latency play.

Jagex releases the first of three original stories set within the world of Runescape

Posted by Shaun Walton on May 15th, 2024

At this point, I am sure everyone has heard of Runescape, and or Runescape Classic. It has been going strong for 23 years, with constant content and story coming out. Luckily for fans of the game, or fantasy in general, Jagex has announced an expansion to Gielinor’s lore, in the form of a new fantasy novel; Runescape: The Gift of Guthix.

The first of a planned trilogy, The Gift of Guthix is a tale of civil war, the origin of magic, and the less-than-successful Fremennik Great Invasion. Lord Raddallin is gathering an army of tribes to his cause, helped by his advisors comprised of Black and White knights, all cautious of one another.

Posted by Shaun Walton on May 13th, 2024

The field trip to Australia continues in Reverse: 1999 as Phase 2 of Revival! The Uluru Games kicks off. You will be able to collect new characters, engage with new events, get hordes of free gifts, and follow the story of a mushroom-based researcher from the land of Melbourne.

In your continued journey you will run into Ezra, the aforementioned fungus fanatic, and be able to learn about him through his story event; As The Driven Snow Falls. He works hard in his lab at the Laplace headquarters and is always willing to help out anyone in needs, despite his aversion to battle.

Ride into the zombie apocalypse in style with Earn to Die Rogue

Posted by Shaun Walton on May 10th, 2024

Back in the good old days of Flash games, there were a few staples; Happy Wheels, Stick RPG, and of course the apocalyptic driver Earn to Die. Fans of the running over zombies simulator can rejoice, as the sequel to the legendary game, Earn to Die Rogue, has launched on mobile with some nice upgrades.

Sticking true to its roots, Rogue brings back the zombie hit-and-run fun for the first time since 2015, having rocketed to the number one spot on the iOS paid games charts in 135 countries. It also notched up over 160 million downloads on Google Play as a free-to-play title, and I am sure we can expect similar numbers again.

Netflix Games expands its catalogue with five fantastic titles this month

Posted by Shaun Walton on May 8th, 2024

It is a good time to be a Netflix subscriber this month. I presume there's a good show or two, but we are, of course, talking about their gaming service that seems to be picking up steam lately. May is adding five new titles, and there are some top names in there.

Starting with what you can pick up right now, you could be enjoying Sonic Mania Plus as you read this. Designed as a homage to when Sonic games were at their peak, you can play as Tails, Knuckles, or the blue blur himself to dash through this easter egg-filled nostalgia trip and grab those all-important rings.

Pokemon Go takes a step closer to real Pokemon thanks to upgraded AR tool

Posted by Shaun Walton on May 8th, 2024

When Pokemon Go was first announced, one of the best concepts of the whole thing was having your favourite Pokemon follow you in the real world and be able to interact with them. To be frank, the AR Snapshot tool could have done a lot more to help with this, and thanks to Niantics’ latest update, it now does.

A big new addition to the camera is the ability to include up to three Pokemon in your pictures. Not enough for the full Eeveelution lineup just yet, but it is a start I suppose. You can select whoever you like or take inspiration from the available group sets. Perfect if you want a scrapbook of starter trios over the year.
