" When our children were born I began to appreciate so many wonderful children's books. Oh, how books have changed since my childhood. Treasured books that I have on my bookshelf still have a special meaning to me although the art isn't anywhere near as vibrant as art in children's books today."

Linda was born in Georgia and moved many times when she was growing up. "I have always loved art and journaling. Being creative kept me grounded. As young child I would draw and color for hours. As a teen I painted on canvas or blank walls and I wrote.

"Since my husband and I have been married, we've spent a lot of time outdoors, hiking and enjoying the natural world. It seems to me that when you are an artist you notice opportunities to create. Years and years ago I came across a rock that was perfect for painting."

"My love for art and children's books is what inspires me to write and illustrate books. This is a great quote, "If there's a book you really want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it. ~ Toni Morrison.

We all have stories inside us waiting to be released. It is a joy to bring a story to life. Set aside time to read your favorite book today or discover a new book. I know you will smile and be inspired."

Linda has written 12 books. Eight journals with guided prompts that are combined with various artists' illustrations, unique graphics or beautiful photography which encourages the writer to fill up the empty pages with their own life stories, Let's Rock: Rock Painting for Kids which won a Children's Choices award and Only One You which focuses on the love between parents and their child, Adri. You Be You continues on where Only One You left off and now Adri is discovering the world for himself. These books speak to readers of all ages.

Introducing Love You When a story that reassures a child that they are indeed thought of through out the course of our busy day. The end sheets offer more examples of times when thoughts of your child come to mind. Readers have said that the message in this book spans not only to the special love between a parent and a child, the message also speaks to adults. Read this book for yourself and see who you think of as you turn the pages. Life passes in the blink of an eye ~ therefore we must express our love.

This keepsake journal is good for boys or girls, from age 7 to 11 (or maybe older). I say 7 as the minimum age just because it seems like that's an age where kids are better at writing, both content and handwriting.
I like this better than a blank journal because it has pages that specify what the child can write about, as well as pages that let them write whatever is on their mind. It has pages for drawing, again some pages specify what they should draw, while others allow them to draw whatever they want. There are pages that suggest they ask their family (grandparents, parents, etc) questions, for example, what things were like when they were young.
If the journal owner tries to complete the whole journal (which could take a while), it can be something they look back on as an adult. I had something similar when I was in fourth grade that I wrote in. It brought a smile to my face to remember what the fourth grade version of myself wrote about. My book wasn't nearly as nice as this one, and mine didn't have the range of topics or pages for drawing. The pages where you ask your parents (or other family members) questions and write about what they tell you isn't really something you can fully appreciate until they are no longer with you.
I intend to give several of these as gifts to the kids in my life. I hope they enjoy writing in them, try to complete the entire journal and will have something to treasure when they are older.

I gave this as a Christmas gift to my twin 7 year old nieces. They spent the entire day carrying it around, writing in it, and reading out the questions to other family members. I was really glad with how much they liked it, how they engaged with it, and used it to engage with others.

The books themselves were a sturdy paperback and nicely designed, and there are plenty of questions and space for them to write and draw. It's a great present, especially when paired with a pretty pen or pencil.

My daughter was asking me for a diary for her 8th birthday. Noticing she didn't do much with the previous diaries I had gotten her, which were just blank lined paper with a beautiful cover, I wanted to find am "all about me" style of journal that would give her suggestions on what she could write about. There aren't a ton of options available, but I chose this one because it seemed to be the best option that fit the bill for what I wanted. While I checked out the "look inside" feature, I was still pleasantly surprised when I received the journal by the type of questions included. Some examples are "If you could schedule your own school day, what would it look like?", "Who do trust with your secrets", and "Is there something that you have always wanted to do that seems impossible? What is it? What is one little thing you could do to start you on the path to your dream?" That being said, the journal also has plenty of space for my daughter to write or draw anything she would like. This journal is gender-neutral and there aren't many graphics on the inside - lots of space to write and draw. If I had to list one complaint, it's that the graphics that are included inside the journal and the colors/patterns feel a bit out-dated. I wish they had other journal options that are more clearly geared toward specific genders, with an update to the graphics to make them more fun and interesting for kids. However, my daughter was so excited to receive it and love to write in it whenever she can, so the colors and graphics don't seem to bother her much! :)

We purchased this book to fill out with our children, while Grandpa and Grandma have a journal of their own to fill out! I am looking forward to working on this with them. :)

There is plenty of writing space and fun questions in the margin. We plan to have all three of our children answer the questions on each page. The questions are creative!

I bought this for my 9 year old niece for Christmas. She was totally excited about it as soon as she opened it. The pages are decorated with cute, various pictures, and there is plenty of writing space to answer the fun prompts. I believe it's important for children to explore and put into words their feelings, and this is a good tool to teach them about proper and healthy emotional outlets. I recommend buying this and can totally see myself gifting it again to another kid.

We're homeschoolers and my son would sooner pull his own teeth out than write. I bought him this book along with Dr. Seuss' My Book About Me. He carried them everywhere he went for weeks after the books came, writing in them in the car, in bed, at the table, at the store, etc. He was so proud of his entries he shared them with the rest of the family. It seems to have warmed him up to writing in general. I'm thrilled.

I purchased this book for 2 eleven year old nieces because I liked the whimsical cover. You're only able to view a few pages before purchase, and they seemed ok; but in actuality, the inside artwork is not very attractive or inspiring, and the questions are too broad for the 9 to 11 age group. It is 128 pages and 9 x 7.1 x 0.4 inches, which is too big and heavy for a child to carry around. It was pubished in 2004; I think writers (probably including this one) and educators have developed more interesting, provocative, and creative journals since then.

My 11-year-old daughter likes to write, but she doesn't always know what to write, so this book is fun for her. It sparks creativity. It has mostly good questions, and enough room to write, but not too much. THe only criticism we have is that some of the illustrations are cartoony and unlovely. We like beautiful pictures.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book, helps children to be reflective and always fun to look back on!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 14, 2024
Bought this as a gift for someone as my children had been given them and enjoyed filling them out at the time and also looking back as adults or older teenagers on what they’d written and drawn as their younger self. It encourages children to reflect on things and can help start conversations about difficult issues or problems they have, or about happy things and wonderful memories. Helps the child to know who they are and to process things, happy things or difficult, and to solidify memories. My children had them from age 6 and when they would put an entry in I suggested they put the date and their age next to it, and then another time they could answer the question again but from their new perspective being (for example) a couple of years older now. Was really interesting for them to see how they change and to appreciate that everyone changes and grows and learns. Can be funny too looking back! For example, as a 13 year older you can’t always recall how you felt about something when you were 8, so it can be funny, but also interesting and helpful to reflect. Definitely recommend for all youngsters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent writing prompts
Reviewed in Canada on March 16, 2014
I bought this for my Grade 2 daughter and she loves it. Often at that age, kids find it a bit challenging to maintain a journal if the writing prompts are not good enough. That's where this books scores well. It has a good mix of basic prompts such as your favourite holiday or bedtime routine, as well as others that are more reflective such as what are three world problems and how would you solve them, or compare a seashore and mountain holiday etc. There are also pages for drawing and anything else the child wants to write about. Ideal gift for Grade 3 kids and upwards.

Great gift for a child interested in writing or keeping a journal! Our niece loved it and the questions the kids can write about are thought provoking for the child and also a good educational tool to demonstrate to the child all of the feelings, memories, activities that can be written about in a personal journey!

Bought for a 6 year old who had asked for a diary. A couple of the questions are a little too old (e.g. when you talk with friends on the phone, what do you talk about?) but mostly they are great. They have done a good job of triggering ideas and prompting discussions and I think this will provide a really beautiful keepsake journal. We all liked that it was not at all pop-tastic or glitzy.
