Los Altos, Calif. — May 30, 2024 — The city of Los Altos welcomes Los Altos native Saskia Lagergren as its newly appointed chief of police. Lagergren will oversee the City’s full-service police department, comprised of 32 officers and 17 professional personnel. She will assume this position on Monday, June 3.

Los Altos, Calif. — February 22, 2024 — After approximately one and a half years of service to the Los Altos police department, Chief of Police Angela Averiett has announced her resignation, effective mid-April. Chief Averiett has accepted the position of interim chief of police for the city of San Leandro and assumes her new responsibilities at the end of April.

whose bodies were found Tuesday, January 16, at approximately 1:20 PM, during a welfare check at a residence in the 200 block of West Edith Avenue.

Los Altos, Calif. — April 6, 2024 — The city of Los Altos is introducing an updated compost program for 2024. The self-serve compost station will return for three weeks:  

  • Wednesday, April 17 - Thursday, April 25 
  • Wednesday, June 12 - Thursday, June 20  
  • Wednesday, September 11 - Thursday, September 19 

During these allotted times, it will be open 24/7 and will be refilled regularly. This year, the station will be located at the Los Altos Community Center parking lot (97 Hillview Avenue).

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded Los Altos the Award of Distinguished Budget Presentation, and the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers (CSMFO) recognized the budget for Excellence in Operating Budget.
