Editorial Reviews

From the Author

For many years I searched for the unique answer, the one technique that would work consistently; a solution that would work for everyone, every time. I've concluded that this paradigm doesn't exist. Some motivational book, huh? If you spent as much time doing the things you don't like to do as you spend searching for magical techniques from a book to make those things fun, you would already be done by now - and able to spend time doing the things you truly enjoy!

From the Inside Flap

Some think they will find happiness when they get out of debt. Others feel they'll be happy when they find their soul mate or get married. Still, others believe it is accompanied by landing that dream job or getting promoted. However, the more they chase happiness, the farther they find themselves from it. Many people are never happy with where they are. When they find happiness, it only lasts a fleeting moment before the hunger to be even better, richer, bigger, or smaller takes over again. Happiness isn't something we seek. It isn't out of reach or in the future. Happiness is something you can enjoy right here, right now. The formula for happiness is simple. Happy people have four traits in common:
  1. They achieve their goals, but do not obsess over them.
  2. They eliminate the times when they are unhappy.
  3. They quit holding onto things that are no longer true.
  4. They avoid becoming addicted to a specific outcome or way of life.
What you receive by accomplishing your goals is not nearly as important as what you become by accomplishing them. Happiness comes first in being, and only secondly in doing.

Topher Morrison is the founder of Topher Communications, a firm that specializes in pitch development for business leaders. He is the author of 4 best-selling books and was voted one of the top 10 business speakers in Tampa Bay.   He is featured in the award-winning documentaries "The Compass" and "Riches," and his first book Stop Chasing Perfection & Settle for Excellence has been hailed as "the self-help book for people who are sick of self-help books." His 3rd book, Collaboration Economy with John Spencer Ellis has become the goto book for small business owners wanting to take advantage of the new economy. His latest book, The Book on Public Speaking, takes a head-on approach to challenging the status quo of the 1980s motivational speaker styles and instructs the readers on current speaking strategies that make them relevant in today's culture.

Topher's extensive speaking schedule, spanning over 30 years, has taken him throughout the US, UK, Australia, and Singapore and has earned him a global reputation as an expert in mass-communications and influence.  Topher has spoken for top execs with American Express, Microsoft & Google, just to name a few.

In contrast to most professional speakers, Topher's shockingly honest, sometimes irreverent, and always down-to-earth approach is surprisingly infectious. His personality and straightforward manner are perfect for the business person who is tired of fleeting success in "self-help sinkholes." He is not afraid to tell it like it is and shatters the myth of achieving overnight success. Instead, Topher speaks to the person who could care less about motivational 'magic wands' and is more focused on getting tangible, proven strategies to become a key person of influence in their company, network, or industry.

I have over 200 self help books in my library and this is the only book that resonated in both my heart and soul. I loved doing the "History Homework." It made me realize how truly valuable of a person I am. If I were a teacher I would make this book required reading for highschool students. I bought this book for several friends and I give it 2 thumbs up.

Terrific book.

The true stories from the author's life are very powerful persuasive teaching stories which deeply affect you on a conscious and unconscious level. Originality and truth working together are often hard to find in self-help books. Highly recommended.

This book managed to do what few other books have been able to do for me in a very long time: distract me from everything else because I wanted to keep reading! Then at the end of every chapter I felt so motivated to take action! I have had such a productive week since finishing this book.

This is the perfect book for people who are new to personal development or those who have been totally overwhelmed by reading too many self-help books! It is very down to earth, shares truths I have not heard articulated so well in any other book and is full of stories that are engaging and real. Unlike so many other books it doesn't get caught up in making outlandish promises. The information really makes you think and, better still, change your behaviour. (Well, it changed mine!)

I am so glad I read it and I can't recommend it highly enough to everyone. I am definitely buying copies for friends and family!!

Topher Morrison's new book, "Settle for Excellence (Stop Chasing Perfection)", is written for those of us with long-cherish dreams that we've never fulfilled. His core premise is that so long as we keep chasing after some illusive ideal of perfection before we take action, we'll never do anything. We need to put our focus on excellence, doing the best we can, and know that our actions will lead us to our goals one choice at a time. Applying his NLP and hypnosis training to help us alter our own subconscious drives and let go of perfectionism, Topher offers a practical approach to self-help that actually works.

Speaking as the author of a self-help book on how a global awareness empowers us to make a deep difference in the world, I'm writing from experience when I say that "Settle for Excellence" is a must-read for anyone who cares about their impact in the world. Reading his book makes global sense!
