Story

The Lejog challenge - Lands End to John O’Groats the hard way, taking in the furthest points south west, south, south east, east, west, north west, north and north east on the British mainland.

Pete Naish and his wife Liz have been hosting children from Belarus with the Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline for the past 14 years. Pete enjoys cycling and has always been up for a challenge having previously raised money for a number of charities by conducting long distance bike rides. This has included Lands End to John O’Groats (twice), and the furthest points east to west (Lowestoft to Ardnamurchan).

He has now decided to undertake a more ambitious cycling project in 2011. Starting out from Lands End on May 8th he intends to ride to John O’Groats but this time with a difference. His route will criss-cross the country taking in the furthest points south (Lizard Point ), south east (near Dover), east  (Lowestoft), west (Ardnamurchan Point Scotland), north west (Cape Wrath), north (Dunnet Head) and finally north east (Duncansby Head, near John O’Groats). This will be a total of 1,908 miles which will take 25 days to complete and you can follow his progress at http://www.mylejogchallenge.co.uk/

This will be the ultimate challenge and Pete hopes to raise a healthy sum of money for the Bristol link of the Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline to help fund future respite visits for the children of Belarus. Both Pete, and Graham are funding their own participation so that all monies raised will go to the charity.

His sincere appreciation goes to all those friends and supporters who are helping make this challenge possible. There are too many people to name in person but you know who you are so a big "thank you". However he would like to mention his wife Liz for putting up with his cycling exploits and to Graham Clark (Fund Raising Officer, Bristol link) who is taking the time out to drive the support vehicle all the way around the ride. 25 days driving following Pete around is a challenge in itself
