On Friday 21st December 2007 the Church suffered an arson attack and the severe fire gutted all the east end of the church.
The new organ has been installed and the church building restored to is former glory.
Why not come and have a look?
It was thanks to the professionalism and
dedication of the
teams of firemen who entered the church at the height of the blaze wearing
their breathing apparatus, that a great deal of the church was saved and a
number of irreplaceable items were moved to safety.
St Thomas' Church
is situated
in the small village of Newhey in the English Pennine hills close to the former mill town
of Rochdale.
The Church was built in 1876 as a replica of
Holy Trinity Church, Weston-super-Mare, Somerset which had been erected
fifteen years
previously.
It is made of Bath stone which gives it a clean and shining appearance during the
day
and
a translucent appearance at night, especially when the moon is out. |
