Our village hall, affectionately known as “The Hut”, stands in the heart of Powerstock, one of West Dorset's most picturesque villages. It is the focus of community events for Powerstock and the neighbouring villages of West Milton, Nettlecombe, and North & South Poorton.
We are close to St Mary’s Church and to the two local pubs, The Three Horseshoes in Powerstock and The Marquis of Lorne in Nettlecombe. We are adjacent to Powerstock Primary School where there are 20 parking spaces available out of school hours, including weekends.
Rich in history and community spirit
“The Hut”, as Powerstock Village Hall is affectionately known, is steeped in local history. It was initially used during World War 1 to house the troops, after which it was purchased by the village.
It was re-erected in its current situation in 1953 when local land owner Sir Victor Crutchley VC, DSC, kindly donated the land to the village.
Since then of course, it has had several refurbishments, the most recent being new windows, wooden flooring and updated lighting throughout.
On the walls of The Hut there are displays of fascinating photos and posters depicting local characters and events from years gone by. There is also a well-stocked cabinet displaying interesting archaeological artefacts found in the local area.
“The Hut” has been host to many memorable celebrations in the past, and offers a superb, well equipped venue for any occasion.
