The inspirational true story of Ruby Bridges.

The year is 1960, and six-year-old Ruby Bridges and her family have recently moved from Mississippi to New Orleans in search of a better life. When a judge orders Ruby to attend first grade at William Frantz Elementary, an all-white school, Ruby must face angry mobs of parents who refuse to send their children to school with her. Told with Robert Coles' powerful narrative and dramatically illustrated by George Ford, Ruby's story of courage, faith, and hope continues to resonate more than 60 years later.

Powerful true story of Ruby Bridges. She broke the color barrier as a small child and went on to become a civil rights activist. God bless her good heart.🙏

I am nearly 28 with two kids and I cried reading this to them. They are nine and six, and listen quietly when I read it, and I hope my added emotion to the story leaves a strong impression on them to go forward in this world as better people than past generations. It was well written and illustrated, and now that I know I can find more in person in both New Orleans and Indiana, not too far from us, we will 100% be going when we can travel safely again. Thank you, Ruby.

I loved this book as a kid, so I bought it for my baby, even though they're still a bit too young for it. This is an excellent true story that serves as a jumping off point for discussions about racism, bravery, empathy, and justice.

Every child should read this book! What an amazing story!

I'm a retired educator and I like that it is written and illustrated where elementary age students would be able to understand what other generations have done, so they could have some of the privileges they have today. The books were given to my great grandchildren of various ages.
