Josh Emett’s top places to visit in Midtown AucklandJosh Emett, celebrity chef and restauranteur, has just opened a new restaurant, Gilt Brasserie. Nestled in the heart of Auckland’s historic Chancery Chambers building, Gilt is an all-day, inner-city brasserie serving contemporary European fare with local charm. Check out Josh’s go-to places in the neighbourhood.
Just down the street from Gilt is Cahn’s. If I'm ever after a last-minute great bottle of wine or a top-shelf spirit, this is my go-to. They are very knowledgeable, and their recommendations never fail me! If you’re after something hard to find, you'll most likely find it here!
Positioned halfway between Onslow and Gilt, Hugo’s is a great place for a post-work drink or an off-site meeting while perched at the bar. Helen and I have been regulars at Hugo’s for years, and you can often find me here having a quick bite. Their food is consistently excellent, and I appreciate their warm and friendly hospitality.
Our favourite cocktail bar, conveniently located right across the street from Gilt on O’Connell Street. Danny and Theo have created an amazing cocktail list that makes me want to return time and time again. A Negroni is my go-to drink here, and they make one of the best in town.
Right across the road from us at Gilt on O’Connell St, Rumours Coffee has become my go-to place for a coffee fix. The team is awesome; we watch them through the windows of Gilt as they prepare coffee from the early morning until the afternoon. I'm a flat white guy, but they also offer a great range of pour-overs and single origins worth exploring.
A fitness class at Studio Box has become a regular part of my routine in the last few months. Studio Box is across the road from Onslow on Princes St., so it’s great to keep me in line as I drive past it every day. Dwyane is great at keeping the class (including myself) motivated. 45 minutes, either in the morning or evening, is a great way to step away from work and do something for myself.
