Welcome to The Lake

The Lake of Menteith is Scotland’s only natural lake and is internationally renowned for the quality of trout fishing and its rare Lowland beauty with the the Highland hills as a backdrop. It is the main venue for National Trout Fly Fishing Championships and is situated 20 minutes west of Stirling and under an hour from Glasgow or Edinburgh. The 700 acre water is stocked with top quality rainbow and brown trout which are reared on site by the company. Fishing is boat only from our fleet of 36 well maintained fifteen foot boats which are supplied with an outboard engine, oars, net and a drogue.

Really overwhelmed at the demand out there for our fish from the Lakes Facebook page. I have had to knock back most requests. As the season progresses and the anglers freezers fill… there will be more trout available and I will be posting again. For simplicity I will post up when I have exact number available and it will be for next day collection by those first to respond. Thanks. In the mean time rubbing salt into the wounds with this picture of last night’s trout quiche. So quick if you buy the ready made shortcrust pastry.

ANYBODY WANTING FRESH TROUT TOMORROW 5.30pm or Friday? Please get in touch and we will be happy to provide/donate to individuals or restaurants/hotels. National Angling Heat taking place and we are struggling to find homes for the fish so please feed your neighbours if you are taking part. Am eating it once or twice a week as it is the best in terms of sustainability and quality. The wild garlic mayonaisse was excellent. Tonight it’s a quiche.

heavily oversubscribed. It seems there is a big demand for the fish out there! So pleased as don't come to collect unless contacted today.

aberfoyle community fridge also taking 15?

It's such a shame that there isn't more anglers taking these fish for the table. The quality of these fish will be far superior than anything bought from a supermarket and most fishmongers.

I’ll happily take some either Thursday or Friday it may be slightly later but not by much

I’ve asked some pensioners if they would like a fish and they said yes. What would be the best time Thursday or Friday to come over, I need at least 6 please. Looking forward to your reply. Cheers

So fish are being killed for no other reason but to win a competition.sad really.

Well done guys, let’s not let it go to waste.

Would love some. Could collect later on Friday if ok ? X

Could I pick some up please.xx

We’ll take 8 please Quint if thats ok.
Cheers

If there is any left Quint Glen we can take a couple, thanks.

I could take few if that's OK?

If there are any spare, could we take a few please? Thanks, Nina

Could I please take 6? 👌

Hopefully fish there soon🤞

Is the webcam offline ?

Could I possibly have 6

Do u deliver?

Would they be filleted. I canny stomach the trout slime

I can’t fit any more in the freezer (literally) after Glen Lamont and I landed 12 stone of trout doon south in a 3 day trip

From you not comm fridge

Hey, would I be able to take some? I can come by tomorrow at 5:30pm 🙂

Lovely thing to do..

they look delicious on a great plate

Can’t they not just have a points system rather than killing fish nobody wants

Put this up on Giving Up The Game

Water temperature is up 2 or 3 C to 12.5C in the last week and the fish are on the move.
FARIO MENTEITH BOAT LEAGUE STARTS IN TWO WEEKS and runs from 8th May to 7th Aug with a 6pm start time. The winner is the angler with the fewest points over 9 of the 14 heats (1pt being given for first place etc). This friendly competition is designed to test the experienced angler and to introduce the improvers to the more skilled hands and the scene. Boat anglers are randomly allocated and the comp is fished to scottish club rules (more info at www.menteith-fisheries.co.uk). All entry money (£25) goes to the prizes or charity. The competition is very generously sponsored by Fario Flys with the winner of each heat (or the best from who hasn’t won a heat) getting a box of 20 flies of their selection. 2nd placed (or best of who has not won 2nd place before ) gets a free night entry from the Lake. We would like to thank FARIO FLYS for their contribution to this competition and to the fly fishing scene in general. Pictured above is Last Years Winner Robbie Gibson with a decent fish from the weekend. PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO TAKE PART!!!

Was out yesterday, quite challenging, we managed 17 to the boat, hairy hole, tods, bank of reeds, mostly to fab and buzzer, couple on the bung and a couple on a cat, floater or 3ft midge tip. Did lose 4 fish in the dries, just kept spitting the hook at the net, but not really on the dries as such, wind only slight but changing direction all day along with a lot of bright spells. Fish in great condition and don't like coming to the boat🤣🎣
Didn't try deep or any snakes etc which probably would have picked a few fish up. Just great to be out with my pal Steven Bett and enjoy a day afloat.

Lake Data

The Lake fishing is boat only and the venue is popular for dry fly and buzzer fishing, the quality of the stocked and resident trout – and its very large pike. The low lying nature of the Lake and its irregular shape makes for an interesting drift, where shelter is easily found on windy days.

Our large fishery cabin contains a tackle shop and reception area with refreshments available – a great place to relax and discuss your day with fellow fishermen.

For the non-fisherman the area has lots to offer with walking, cycling, shopping and restaurants all within 20 minutes drive, the Lake of Menteith Hotel is next door and on the largest of the Lake’s three islands is the impressive and peaceful ruin of the 13th century Inchmahome Priory and the remains of the Earl of Menteith’s Castle on Inch Talla. The Lake is designated a site of Special Scientific Interest due to the exceptional flora and fauna.
