Story

NEXT RACES; Brighton Marathon 26.2 miles, April 2013, Grand Union Canal Race 145 miles, May 2013, Salomon 4 Trails 100 miles, July 2013.

CURRENT COMPLETED MILEAGE - 904.08 miles.

My name is Daryl Farmer, I have always had an interest in the natural world, and in particular, life within the oceans. In recent years these enviroments have been coming under increasing pressure due to a combination of threats. One of the biggest concerns is the increasing, and rapid, decline of the worlds shark populations due to the barbaric practice of shark finning - slicing off the fins of a living shark, then tossing the carcass back overboard, still alive, to die a slow and painful death. It is estimated that shark populations have decreased by up to 90% in recent times. All this for a bowl of tasteless soup.

So, the plan is to do a series of Marathons and Ultra Marathons, all to raise funds for The Shark And Coral Conservation Trust. The charity focuses on a some of the key issues which are having a disastrous impact on the worlds shark populations and coral reefs but which can still be halted if we act in time.

My goal is to run the equivalent total length of The Great Barrier Reef (1400 miles), training mileage will not count towards the total, only race mileage.

100% of money donated will go directly to the SCCT as all race entries, travel, etc will be funded by myself.

Along with the running there will be various events organised to support the races and raise awarenes of the SCCT and their valuable work so please check www.running4reefs.com for details of upcoming races and events

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you so much for your continuing support,

Daz.

About the charity

The SCCT is dedicated to spreading awareness to the general public of the impacts of oceanic acidification (reducing the calcification processes) and excessive shark depletion. Both are currently having impacts on a global basis in commercial, social, industrial, cultural and political fields.
