Solo Nationals at South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club - Day 3

by Mike Ball 19 Jul 2011 20:52 BST 17-22 July 2011

Broken bodies and smiling faces were the order of the day today! With slightly windier conditions than yesterday, two slick starts, and exciting downwind sailing to make up for the hard work upwind meant everybody was kept happy, although there was some carnage at the gybe marks.

The fleet has adapted well to gate starts, and with no black flags or general recalls, the majority of sailors seem very happy. However the tide came into play today, and the windward mark caught many out, with a high number of sailors doing turns for being pushed onto it. Charlie Cumbley had another two bullets today, but certainly in the second race he had to come from 6th at the windward mark, by the wing mark he had moved up to 4th, overtaking David McGregor who unfortunately capsized. David provides the quote of the day which is “I am no good at gybing, I prefer to do it underwater!”

Charlie went on to take pole position during the next beat.

The fleet is generally looking forward to lighter winds tomorrow.
