  1. I love this design so much! Beautiful work! I was eager to use it on my new blog, but have been running into issues. Basically, something is getting crossed so that my about page is pulling up one of the blog posts rather than the correct content. The link is accurate, but the content is messed up. It is only happening with your theme, not when I plug in other designs, so I have to abandon it for now. I thought you might like to know! Please feel free to contact me if you’d like other information on this.

  2. Hi Dodo!

    Beautiful theme! You do gorgeous work. I downloaded the 1.1.0 version but my amazon box was still wigging out and overflowing the left sidebar.

  3. Hi!
    Thanks for your nice work! I’m kind of a Newbie with WP.
    I tried to change the sizes a bit, but I have the Problem that I’m not able to resize the middle part where the post are. Basically I just would like to have everything a little bit more narrow.
    I would be great if you could give me a hint or something.

    Thanks you!

    Bye and Greetings from Munich Germany!
    Fred

  4. I’m using this layout which i love! But I would like to use the Author feature and in the sidebar file it say’s:

    <!– Author information is disabled per default. Uncomment and fill in your details if you want to use it.

    could you tell me what this means? Uncomment where?

  5. I wanted to use Oriental for a new blog – it’s so beautiful – but I’m having trouble with the extraction. When I try to extract the file in my blogsite, I get this error message.

    Archive: /home/gmmc/public_html/blog/wp-content/themes/oriental.1.1.1.zip
    End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
    a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
    latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
    the last disk(s) of this archive.
    unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /home/gmmc/public_html/blog/wp-content/themes/oriental.1.1.1.zip or
    /home/gmmc/public_html/blog/wp-content/themes/oriental.1.1.1.zip.zip, and cannot find /home/gmmc/public_html/blog/wp-content/themes/oriental.1.1.1.zip.ZIP, period.

    I thought the file must be corrupt, but I downloaded the file three times from WordPress and once directly from your website and am getting the same error message.
    Can you help?
    Thanks,
    Katie 😦

  6. Hi,

    I installed the Oriental theme, which was perfect for my clients blog, but once I had it all set up in Firefox, I then happened to look in IE and it was not right.

    The sidebar was overlapping the content.
    I got that to stop, but now I have this huge white empty content box above my first post.

    I’ve played with the stylesheet to change the position of the sidebar, no luck.
    I’ve deleted all of my widgets, no luck.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Katie

  7. Did you make the brushes used in this wp layout? The cherry blossoms in the background… I’ve been looking for nice ones like that. If you downloaded them from somewhere, I’d love the URL.
    BTW, killer layout. ^_^

  8. Hello there it’s a great design thanks !

    I wanted to have a static homepage (option > reading > static page in the admin).

    But when I do so I still get the old homepage button selected… (I have now 2 button called homepage and I can’t delete the older one…)

    Any idea ????? Would be great if you could give me a hand.

    All the best,

    Jhon

  9. I really, really want to keep your oriental theme on my blog, but the pages just don’t work. Someone already posted about this above, but I couldn’t find a reply from you anywhere. When you click on the page, it displays an, apparently random, post and not the page you want.

  10. Love the oriental theme. Nice design work. I seem to have same problem as Melanie whereby the my pages (about or other pages which I create ) don’t show. Instead my posts show up. It seems to work for other themes, but only brks with this theme. I have been searching for this kinda theme for so long….I would luv to use it, but it brks my heart that it doesn’t work on the site. Please assist. BTW, I am using wordpress 2.6.3, not sure if this helps…

    regards,

    Nur

  11. Thank you!

    This morning something told me to come back and check with you…and you added a fix to the IE problem!

    My site looks fantastic in both IE and Firefox!

    Last night, the person who put my WordPress together suggested I just download another template since she couldn’t figure out what was wrong with this one. Now I don’t have to!

    What a good morning! Now I can focus on blogging!

    Thanks again!!!

  12. Your changes worked, thank you for taking time and resolving the issue, luv yr theme, I’m gonna recommend yr theme to my friends…Nur

  13. Hi.
    First of all thank you for great work…
    I want to ask a question.
    How can we set the ‘title’ of a post to left and post details as (Posted in xxxx on 12/17/2008 01:29 am by xxxxx | Edit) to right?

  14. Hello, I’ve been using this theme for quite some time now and I noticed the problem in IE6. But you have it fixed already so I’ll update my 1.1.0 version then. I like this theme.

  15. Hello there
    There seems to be a little bug in the latest version of the theme and WordPress 2.7
    If i use a static page as frontpage and a newspage, home shows up but redirects to the news page.

  16. There is a PHP syntax error in sidebar.php at line 13, creating a PHP *fatal* error unless you have enabled “short_open_tag” in php.ini (most haven’t, deprecated). It crashed my WordPress.

    Please change “” to in line 13 of sidebar.php.

  17. I very much love your oriental wp theme design — it’s gorgeous! But why don’t your comments thread? this ability is present in wp 2.7, and I’d really love for it to work in your theme. Perhaps an update soon? 🙂

  18. I figured out how to add templates to this theme, I can’t believe how easy it was.. And in my opinion a few lines of extra code make this already great theme a fair bit better!

    All you gotta do to edit the theme sufficiently is copy the page.php to a new file, perhaps call it FullPage.php or something. Then just edit the page accordingly, here’s my copy of that file:

    echo '« ';
    echo 'post_parent).'" class="parentpage" title="Parent page: '.get_the_title($post->post_parent).'">'.get_the_title($post->post_parent).'';

    Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn't here.

    Then I added another page template that doesn’t use the subpages feature:

    <div class="post" id="post-">
    <a href="" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to ">

    post_parent) {
    echo '« ';
    echo 'post_parent).'" class="parentpage" title="Parent page: '.get_the_title($post->post_parent).'">'.get_the_title($post->post_parent).'';
    echo ' | ';
    }
    ?>

    Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn't here.

    If you’re not sufficiently motived, I’d be happy to post an altered version of this theme in the wordpress theme directory including my changes – but since it’s origionally your work and my changes aren’t massive in terms of quantity of code – I figured you’d like a chance to post it yourself. Please let me know if you’d rather I just repost it for ya.

  20. @Jaymus hmm template is not a required feature for a theme but I may include it in my next version. I plan to make the theme wp 2.7 compatible in my next release.

  21. Dodo! Oriental is a gorgeous theme. Thanks so much for offering it as a WordPress template! It is absolutely perfect . . . .

    Just one thing that’s been puzzling me for hours. . . . In the “Home” section of the website, the white background for the blog entries appears to be shifted right, taking the tags with it. I assume this is controlled by the Main Index template. All of the other pages (controlled by the Page template?) appear properly. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this? I’m sure it’s a simple fix, but I haven’t a clue!

    I’m new to this and haven’t done much in web design since HTML 2.0 was the newest thing, so please be patient with me. Thanks so much for your help!

  22. Nice theme. Thank you for sharing.

    I don’t know if this is an issue on just my system and IE7. WRT the “Recent Posts” panel … text alignment is bit awkward when it spans more than one line. The bullet overlaps the text on line two when the post title spans three lines. For two lines the bullet is wedged between the lines and almost overlaps the first character of the second line.

    FireFox 3.0.5 handles the style much better although the text is not left aligned for each entry. Is the mis-alignment of the text on purpose? It could be my thinking is too rigid and I should just appreciate how it was done.

  23. Hi,

    Super theme. I just wanted to ask – how would one go about adding an image to cover the whole width of the header space above the content and sidebar?

    Many thanks,

    Rory. 🙂

  24. @Dodo

    Yeah, templates definitely aren’t required and not totally necessary. But I think having them adds a lot for next to no effort.

    Awesome Theme at any rate! Cheers!

  25. Hi! I love this theme. The only thing is that I want the post title on the left instead of the right. Can you tell me how to make this change?

  26. hi,
    i have install oriental theme in my blog,but my post titles always stay right side. i want to make the titles from right side.

    please help me

    thank you.

  27. Hi there!

    I really think this is a great theme, especially the color combination.

    I would like to add a picture in the header. I haven’t figured out where and what code I have to add for this.

    Please help!

    Thank you!

  28. Hello!
    Very Interesting post! Thank you for such interesting resource!
    PS: Sorry for my bad english, I’v just started to learn this language 😉
    See you!

  29. Hi,

    thanks for the theme. I just have one question – is there a way to change the order of the pages listed in the Subpages box? By default, they are sorted alphabetically. It would help me a lot if there was a way to make it respect the order of the pages defined in the pages editor.

    I guess this is hidden somewhere in the cuc_menu functions. Unfortunatelly, I’m not good enough in PHP to figure out where exactly.

    Thanks for any help.

  30. I am currently using this theme and just downloaded it this morning so think I have the latest and greatest version of it. I love the warm color scheme and the graphics used on it. If you knew me, you would know just how rarely I use a theme “out of the box”. I usually replace the graphics with ones of my own.

    I want to thank you for making it available — I don’t think you designers get enough thanks for the creations you share.

  31. Hi,

    I wanted first to say thanks for your theme cause I love it.

    I’ve found a small bug which may stop the theme to display any content due to the fact that one php tag uses the php short open form instead of the strict one (i.e. versus ). The short open tag is restricted in my local php configuration and I had to dig out into the code of your theme to found out the issue.

    The tag to correct is located in sidebar.php on line 13.

    I have another issue locally that I need still to investigate. The size of the pictures isn’t rightfully handled (floated pictures) and so they float on to the next post. As a result the layout is quite messy. Again this is something that only happens in my backup local server so nothing to worry too much about, this is certainly due to my own configuration.

    Kind regards from France.

  32. hello again,

    I mentioned in my previous post today that I have a layout problem with your theme. It happens with a floated attachment when the text of the post is short compared to the height of the attachment. In this case the attachment impacts the layout of the posts below. This is very simply solved by adding “clear: both;” in your CSS to ul.postmetadata.
    Hope this helps.

    Thanks again for you wonderfull and peacefull theme.

    Kind regards.

  33. Hi,
    I downloaded Oriental 1.2.1. I like the theme. But there is a problem. After I set one of the static page as home page, the title tab of the static page did not disappear. As a result, there are two tabs: one is for Home page and the other is the title of the static page. How can I get rid of the title tab of the static page? Thanks for your help in advance.

  34. Hi
    Just wanted to say thanks for Oriental, I love it. I am a complete novice when it comes to IT and blogging etc, but I just had a go at adjusting a couple of things in the template. Chnaged heading sizes and colours and positions. (I felt like I’d worked out how the Matrix worked to be honest).
    Just one thing, I’m trying to see in your script where you have the date format. I’ve tried chnaging it on settings to ready like the date format on your own blog page (7th July 2009), I love how your headings are laid out on here actually!
    But it reads like and an American date and puts it backwards. I know it’s really cheeky, but can you please help me by locating for me the date format in teh script so I can chnage it??
    I would be eternally grateful!
    Thanks
    Martha

  35. Hi there, I am just wondering if you used a pattern for the geometric-looking-circular/swirl background for the navigation and headers? Did you make the pattern or did you find it somewhere? I have been looking for a pattern just like that (because I am obviously not talented enough to make my own, lol), and I would greatly appreciate it if you could email or reply with a way for me to use it! I would give credit where it is due of course 🙂

    Thank you in advance!

  36. Hi there,

    I love your theme…but i’ve been trying to install drop down menu plug-ins for the header menu items…and can’t make it work. I have tried several different plugins. Do you know how we would change the code for the default menu items to make them drop down capable? We can upload a drop down menu, but it is always in addition to the one already there….we haven’t been able to replace the current one. Please help!

    Thank you!
    Maribeth

  37. Hi, wonderful theme. I tried to install it on WordPress 2.7 but has been getting this http 500 error. When I select the theme on Admin->Appearence, I get the http 500 error too.

    this is the actual PHP error that I am getting

    PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wordpress\wp-content\themes\oriental\sidebar.php on line 87

  39. I just implemented this them, and here is the error I am getting.
    Can you please provide some insight?
    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in “wp-content\themes\oriental\sidebar.php” on line 87

    Thanks

  40. I love the design, it is perfect but I am new to this and my server is Lunar Pages and not quite sure how to set up your template. The other issue is the WP on Lunar Pages is 2.8-6 and I dont think it will work since you report 2.7. Any feedback is great appreciated. Again it is a gorgeous page! Hope there is someway it will work for me.

  41. HELP!!

    I absolutely love your theme but something went wrong tonight and I can’t figure out how to fix it.

    Somehow my site lost the deeper orange/red tones (flowers) as well as some of the swirlies on the bars between posts.

    What went wrong? How can I get the theme template back without losing all of my content? 🙂

    THANK YOU!!!
    The PranaMama

  42. Same question as Savas Sen and Margie, above;

    First of all thank you for great work?
    I want to ask a question.
    How can we set the ?title? of a post to left and post details as (Posted in xxxx on 12/17/2008 01:29 am by xxxxx | Edit) to right?

    I had changed it from ‘right’ to ‘center’ in one of the css pages, but had to reupload the blog since the theme suddenly had an orange bar going through it. After uploading and installing the theme again, I can’t find which css sheet I changed it in. Searching for ‘right’ or ‘text-align’ is not bringing it up. Would really like the post title to be centered or to the left. It looks strange way off to the right. Otherwise, beautiful theme. Hope to hear back otherwise will have to look for another theme as my client loves it, but not the positioning of the post title..

    thanks
    Lauren

  43. Ahh… found it! Change float: right, to float: center in the Stylesheet, under the /* Post */ section!!!!! I also bumped the size of the title up to 1.8em.

    /* Post */
    .post h2.posttitle {
    padding: 0;
    margin: 0;
    float: center;
    font-size: 1.8em;

  44. This theme is beautiful, and perfect for my kimono blog.

    However, I am having an issue where pingbacks do not show up. Normal comments appear fine, and pingbacks do show up if I apply another theme, but I’m not sure how to edit this theme to make them visible.

    Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have :heart:

    Diane

  45. [Comment ID #277504 Will Be Quoted Here]
    Figured it out, had your same problem.
    Go the Blog admin page, click on Editor under the Appearance tab, click on Main Index Template, and somewhat at the beginning of the code, look for . Change to . You might want to change the time to the G:i instead, for 24h format.

    You might also want to click on Theme Functions (functions.php) to apply the same changes as well.

  46. thanks for your theme. i updated to the new version and have 2 questions:

    1. can i remove the time stamp at the top of the pages?
    2. can i get rid of the “home” tab at the left (if i create a page called “home” and assign that to be my home page, then there are two home tabs in the nav bar.

  47. I’m thinking of using the oriental theme for static site pages as well as for a blog. I don’t program, I just download html and adjust it. How can I remove the sidebar for the static pages of the site and make the page only the width of the main column?

  48. Very clean indeed, I’m looking for a nice theme for a blog on a trip to Japan I’m about to go on. I’ll be travelling for six months. Not sure if this would work but I’m book marking the post all the same, it is nice theme.
