Prince Charles visits sustainable projects in Todmorden

The Prince of Wales has visited an "inspiring" community food scheme in Todmorden, during a five-day tour to encourage sustainable living.

The prince met people involved with the Incredible Edible project, in which fruit and vegetables are grown in public places across the town.

The initiative aims to increase the amount of local food grown and eaten in the area.

The prince saw the project during a mile-long walking tour of the town.

The visit is part of his national Start tour of Britain.

He said: "The Incredible Edible Todmorden initiative is inspiring. I am thrilled that the Start tour has highlighted it as a shining example of how individuals in communities can support one another to live more sustainable lives."

The prince was greeted by hundreds of cheering primary school children at Todmorden railway station and stopped to talk to some of them before making his way into the town centre.
