News Report weekended 19th January

Last Saturday (11^th) was Clydesdale Harrier’s own club race The Hannah Cup. It took place this year in Dalmuir Park instead of the usual Dalmuir Golf Course. A few runners went off course so times were not recorded. The course is going to be used for this Saturday’s Dunbartonshire Cross Country Championships.

On the 5^th January three members of the club travelled down to Preston to run in the Central Lancashire New Year Half Marathon. Fastest harrier was Paul Carroll who had a brilliant run to finish as 2^nd male overall in a time of 1.17.15, followed by 5^th placed male Robert O’Neill (1.19.11), and Marina McCallum (1.35.44).

Last month was the first in a series of indoor track and field meetings at the Emirates Stadium called the SAIL (Scottish Athletics Indoor League). We had an excellent turnout in most events. Under 11 Boys had Murray Brown (60m 11.54, Long Jump 1.25m), Andrew Donohue (60m 10.58, 600m 2.21.6), Lewis Burn (600m 2.33.9), and Grant Sloan (Long Jump 1.64m). Under 13 Boys had Aaron Belkevitz (60m 9.71, 60mH 3^rd in 12.03), Kieran Goggins (60m 10.20), Robert Whittick (800m 2.36.0, High Jump 1.15m), Cairn Wallace (800m 2.56.2, 200m 32.1, Long Jump 3.81m), Jack Dolan (60nH 12.49), Shot Putt 5.39m), Zak Shannon (200m 35.9, Long Jump 2.69m), Jamie Russell (Shot Putt 3^rd in 5.88m). Under 15 Boys had Joel Hinde (60m 8.80, 60mH 11.37, Long Jump 4.37m), J.O’Conner (60m 9.33, 60mH 12.83, Long Jump 3.46m), Stephen Kane (800m 3.02.1, 400m 78.0), Lewis Brown (200m 29.4, Shot Putt 4.86m). Under 17 men had Darren Dolan (60m 8.27, 200m 26.3), Philip Allan (60m 8.73, 200m 27.2, High Jump 1.30m), Lewis Hay (800m 2.20.9, 400m 59.9, Long Jump 4.85m), Brian Aird (800m 2.36.5, 400m 72.2, Shot Putt 4.35m), David Wilson (60mH 10.24, High Jump 1.60m). Under 20 men had Tony Dolan (800m 2.17.7, 200m 27.8, 400m 64.5, Long Jump 4.84m).

Under 11 Girls had Hannah Jordan (60m 10.07, 600m 2.17.1), Lia Badajo (Standing Long jump 1.47m), Isla Haddock (Standing Long Jump 1.27m). Under 13 Girls had Anna McCracken (60m 9.46), Nicole Donald (60m 9.68, 60nH 12.24, 200m 32.2), Jade Milne (800m 2.55.5, 60mH 3^rd in 11.74), Tiegan Breen (800m 3.00.6), Anna McCracken (200m 32.0, Long Jump 3.17m), Emma Louise-Blair (Long Jump 2.80m), Zoe Collins (Shot Putt 5.23m). Under 15 Girls had Cara Jordan (60m 9.22, 60mH 13.11, Long Jump 3.37m), Chloe Allan (60m 9.45), Iona Allan (800m 2.42.8, 300m 56.6), Natasha Shaw (800m 3.04.2), Sarah Goggins (60mH 12.64), Rachel Meehan (200m 32.4), C. Stewart (200m 37.1), Antonia Breen (300m 58.9), Sian Hinde (Long Jump 3.00m), Penny Donaghy (Shot Putt 5.39m). Under 17 Women had Yasmin Kofi (60m 9.26, 200m 30.5, 300m 50.4), Rachel Campbell (60m 9.30, 60mH 10.53, Long Jump 3.92), Emily Paxton (800m 2.32.2, 300m 47.4), Abbie Warrington (200m 30.6, High Jump 1.30m), Kirsty Kay (High Jump 1.35m, Long Jump 3.76m, Shot Putt 5.80m), Karyn Glen (Shot Putt 5.88m). Under 20 Women had Claire Reid (60m 9.15, 800m 3.11.2), Erin Ball (60mH 12.30, 200m 31.4), Eilidh Sinclair (400m 77.8, Long Jump 3.17m), Louise Steele-Milne (High Jump 1.25m, Shot Putt 5.95m).

News Report weekended 5th January

Whilst Clydesdale Harriers had a two week break from structured training sessions some of the members still managed to fit in some racing.
On Boxing Day was the Ayrodynamic Turkey Trot in Ayr. Over a predominantly flat course and near perfect conditions fastest harrier was Yvonne Green (46.50), followed by Stephen McKee (51.52), and Evelyn McKee (54.29).

The Sunday before was the Runners Versus Cyclists Cross Country Race. Over 5 miles Peter Rudzinski ran well to finish in a time of 42.29.

Forthcoming dates for the Harriers include:

11^th January – The Hannah Cup (Dalmuir Golf Course 2pm)

25^th January – Dunbartonshire Cross Country Championships (venue tbc)

1^st February – Masters Cross Country Championships (Hawick – closing date 18^th January!)

News report weekended 22nd December

Clydesdale Harriers were saddened to hear of the death of Jean McMillan last week. Jean was an active member in the club from the 1930s who as a runner won countless cross country and track championships. Our thoughts go out to her family at this time.

Last Tuesday was Clydesdale Harrier’s annual Christmas Handicap race. The seniors ran a loop of North Drumry of approximately 2.2 miles.  It was a staggered start due to it being a handicap but actual times are shown in the order they finally finished. Fastest harrier was Iain Robertson (12.38), followed by Kevin Farmer (12.58), Martin King (13.45), Ryan Nelson (13.45), Hugh Laverty (13.36), Alistair Greig (14.09), Paul McKendry (14.12), Bryan Powell (14.19), Tony Dolan (14.23), Anne Murray (14.30), Gerry Kane (15.32), Marina McCallum (14.48), Alan Dick (14.40), Christine Duncanson (16.51), Bobby Young (15.59), Stephen Docherty (16.02), Claire Reid (18.05), and Nicole Radicheva (18.08).

Two days earlier was the SVHC (Scottish Veteran Harriers Club) Christmas Handicap race which took place in Pollock Park at Cartha Rugby Ground. Fastest harrier and second overall with the handicapping was Hugh Laverty (35.38) over the 5.3 miles course, followed by Marina McCallum (38.41), Bobby Young (39.49), and Gerry Kane (41.20).

Just a reminder that for the seniors the next training session will be on Tuesday 7^th January – since it is the first Tuesday of the month it will probably be in Clydebank Business Park and not at the track.

News Report weekended 15th December

On the 7^th December was the West Districts Cross Country Championships which took place this year in Kilmarnock. Clydesdale Harriers had runners in all age category races over the flat but muddy course. First off were the Under 13 Girls running approximately 3200m. Fastest harrier was Natasha Shaw (13.52), followed by Tiegan Breen (14.08), Anna McCracken (14.12), Sarah Goggins (14.34), Emma-Louise Blair (14.34), and Chloe Allan (16.00).

The Under 13 Boys also ran 3200m. Fastest harrier was Robert Whittock (11.19), followed by Ronan Ross (12.45), Thomas Hearns (12.50), Cairn Wallace (12.50), and Kieran Goggins (14.22).

The Under 15 Girls were running approximately 4000m. Antonia Breen ran well to finish in a time of 17.48.

The Under 15 Boys also ran 4000m. Fastest harrier was Brian Aird (13.41), followed by Calum Ross (14.23), Liam Milligan (15.01), and Stephen Fowler (18.33).

The Under 17 Women had Louise Steele-Milne running 5000m in a time of 28.11. Under 17 Men had Darren Dolan finishing in 27.22.

Senior Women were up next running approximately 6400m. Fastest harrier was Pamela McCrossan (25.15 and 2^nd vet 50), followed by Anne Murray (26.24), and Marina McCallum (26.48).

Lastly Senior Men had Paul Carroll as fastest harrier in a time of 41.25 over 10000m. This was followed by Iain Robertson (45.02), Gerry Montgomery (46.42), Hugh Laverty (48.24), Ryan Nelson (51.49), Bobby Young (52.57), Gerry Kane (54.52), and Peter Rudzinski (59.38).

News Report weekended 8th December

Last Saturday was the West Districts Cross Country Championships at Kilmarnock for all ages in Clydesdale Harriers. Results next week.

The weekend before was the Glasgow Uni 5 Miler which took place in and around the Garscube Estate. Two harriers took part. Fastest harrier was Michael Diver (28.48), followed by Pamela McCrossan (33.27 and 3^rd vet).

Alan Dick was also running that weekend running in the Trailtroopers 10k and finishing in 55.39 over the multi-terrain course.

Just a reminder to all harriers that the Xmas Handicap race will take place (weather permitting) on Tuesday 17^th December. Meet as normal at the school usual time.

News Report weekended 24th November

The weekend of the 16th was a busy one for members of Clydesdale Harriers. On the Saturday was the selection only race at Cardiff. The British and Irish Masters Cross Country International had athletes from all around the United Kingdom and Eire competing in their respective 5 year age categories from age 35-39, 40-44 etc up to 70+. Only a maximum of four athletes from each age category were selected so it was an honour to be in the teams! Clydesdale Harriers had no less than seven athletes taking part. The women’s race had Pamela McCrossan running in the 50-54 Scotland team age category and she had a brilliant run finishing 70th out of 130 women in a time of 23.48 over the 6k course and finished as part of the bronze medallist team (3rd placed team) along with runners from other running clubs in Scotland. Marina McCallum was a late substitution for another woman in the 40-44 Scotland team and ran well to finish in 87th position in a time of 25.14. In the Men’s 70+ Scotland team we had Bobby Young finishing 3rd (Bronze medallist) in his age in a time of 24.42 and 16th out of 38 runners. Not far behind was Pete Cartwright (21st in 25.16), Brian Campbell (29th in 26.26), and Watson Jones (32nd in 26.54). They were also Bronze medallists in the team competition. Paul Carroll ran 8k in the Men’s 35-39 and had a strong run finishing in a time of 27.42. Also that weekend was the Brampton to Carlisle 10 Mile Road Race which had Hugh Laverty running well to finish in a time of 68.06, followed by Peter Rudzinski (77.41), David Mitchell (88.34), and Chris Ryan (87.01). The previous weekend was the 4k Cross Country Short Course Championships at Bellahouston Park. In near perfect conditions Pamela McCrossan was fastest harrier in the woman’s race finishing in 16.31 (1st vet 50), followed by Marina McCallum (17.39 and 4th vet 40). In the Men’s race fastest harrier was Michael Diver (15.21), followed by Paul McKendry (16.43). There were also Junior races at the cross country. In the Under 15 Girls race (2000m) fastest harrier was Iona Allan (9.00), followed by Charlotte Ross (9.05). In the Under 15 Boys race fastest harrier was Brian Aird (7.30), followed by Lewis Hay (8.00), Darren Carruthers (8.08), Joe McCreadie (8.51), and Stephen Kane (8.58). Lastly in the Under 17 Women’s race (3000m) fastest harrier was Abbie Warrington (13.17), followed by Eilidh Sinclair (15.12), and Louise Steele-Milne (15.35). They finished as 4th team overall.

News Report weekended 10th November

On Sunday two races were taking place. The first was the charity event the Mo 10k which took place in Glasgow Green. Two harriers took part in very wet conditions over the two lap course (sporting moustaches!). Fastest harrier was Marina McCallum (44.28), followed by Tricia Stevenson (55.35).

The next race was the Jimmy Irvine Bella 10k which took place in Bellahouston Park. Fastest harrier was Alan Dick (41.25), followed by Dewar Stewart (43.15).

The weekend previous was the Strathaven Striders 10k which had Evelyn McKee and Tricia Stevenson both finishing in 58.17.

Lastly good luck to Pete Cartwright, Bobby Young, Brian Campbell, Watson Jones, Paul Carroll and Pamela McCrossan who have been selected from our club to run on Saturday (16^th) at the International Masters Cross Country Championships against Wales, Ireland and England. It takes place in Cardiff this year. We should have some fantastic results from these harriers!
