Welcome to All India Bar Association

The overarching end of law is justice and the institution of lawyers is a means to this end. Advocacy plays diverse roles in running the machinery of administration of justice. A lawyer leads the way from ignorance to knowledge in his multitudinal roles of an advisor, negotiator, draftsman and attorney.

As consultant, the lawyer influences the decisions of persons and regulates their conduct, ensuring that the same remains within the confines of the law. The complexities of law are demystified enabling laymen to understand and follow the same, making the law effective.

Advocates render invaluable assistance to Courts in reaching a proper and correct conclusion. A vigilant, strong and competent Bar also ensures that the hard-earned independence of the judiciary is not compromised or diluted. An able counsel argues his case fearlessly and with conviction, and assists the Court in the quest for justice.

The advocate uses his expertise in the law to provide protection to the unlettered and the underprivileged. It is his duty to makes their cause felt and their voices heard. The Courts of law, which are otherwise out of reach of the common man, are made accessible to them by the lawyers.

The judicial system stands on twin pillars of the Bench and the Bar. It is only with mutual cooperation and coordination that the system succeeds in its avowed objective of justice.

A strong and committed Bar is also indispensable for protecting and safeguarding the rights of citizens in seeking redress for wrongs inflicted upon and grievances suffered by them. This was witnessed during the period of emergency when the Bar rose to the occasion to defend the Constitution and relentlessly fought battle for restoration of fundamental rights of the citizens. Lawyers played a cardinal role in our freedom movement. Even today, lawyers continue to play a dominating role in the framing of policy and legislation of the country.

For the fulfillment of this mission to deliver justice, it is imperative that the community of lawyers acts in the same direction and speaks in one voice. It is thus necessary to preserve the oneness of the institution and to act in close coordination to make the system responsive to the needs of the people. As an Association, we aim at strengthening the rule of law and stand against injustice anywhere and in any form. We endeavour to preserve the trust, confidence and faith reposed in the profession by the people of this country.

The All India Bar Association is engaged in diverse activities. Our activities include holding of conferences and seminars on cutting-edge legal issues, working towards legal reforms, promotion of legal research, suggesting measures to maintain standards of legal education, strengthening legal aid and upholding human rights. We also promote publications which throw light on emerging fields of law for the benefit of lawyers and students alike. In addition, we make efforts to safeguard the interests of lawyers and advise on professional ethics. Above all, the Association is not simply a lawyers’ body, but a people’s body in as much it caters to the common public as much as its own fraternity.
