Do I have to fundraise?

St Barnabas House relies on the generosity of the community to provide loving hospice care to people of the Worthing, Adur, Arun and Henfield areas.

It costs nearly £10 million every year to provide hospice care for local people 24-hours a day, with only 22% of this coming from government funding. We encourage all our walkers to fundraise as much as possible and we are here to help with fundraising support and ideas if you need them.

What your fundraising can do 💙

There is no minimum sponsorship for Night to Remember, but anything you can fundraise will make a big difference for the people we care for and their families.

£165

is enough to give a patient a whole night of care at home, meaning they are comfortable and cared for and their family is able to get a full night’s sleep.

£230

could fund a night of care for a patient on the hospice ward, so they can get help managing their symptoms and return home more comfortable and relaxed after a short stay.

£1k

could help pay for a patient to spend their last day and night at the hospice, ensuring they are as comfortable as possible and loved ones have the chance to say goodbye.

Meet our Night Team

You’ll be walking through the night for nurses working through the night. Nurse, Pollyanna, tells us what’s it like working when everyone else is sleeping and why, for our Hospice at Home team, every night is a night to remember.

Pollyanna says:

“One of the best things about working nights is time. I enjoy feeling that I can give my absolute best to every patient. People feel more vulnerable at night, and we've got the time to offer them a bit more emotional support.

Sometimes we see patients who don’t need a lot doing practically, but who are feeling scared and alone. I can stay and chat with them, to give them that reassurance.

That’s the best thing – the feeling that you are making a significant difference at such a difficult time for someone.”

Frequently asked questions

Thank you so much for fundraising, your support is helping people access hospice care all year round.

When you sign up you’ll have an Enthuse page created for you – this is the easiest way to start fundraising, as you can share your story across social media immediately and even connect it to Strava. All the money you raise comes directly to us, Enthuse will also take care of all Gift Aid!

Or, if you prefer things old school – then we have a handy sponsorship form you can download to collect your fundraising.

Download our helpful hints and tips on how to get fundraising.

If you don’t want to walk you can still get involved through volunteering to support the event on the night – this invaluable contribution allows the event to continue each year. We simply could not put the event on without the support of our volunteers.

Find out what roles are available

We want Night to Remember to be open to as many people as possible and have the whole community enjoy the event and take part. Which is why we have put the following considerations in place:

  • Three route lengths, so everyone can take part.
  • When you sign up you have the option to tell us if you’re bringing a guide walker with you, who will attend the event for free.
  • Your assistance dog can attend with you, free of charge.
  • All routes can all be accessed by wheelchair users and have step free access. There is one section of the route that isn’t paved, however there are alternative paths for anyone who needs them.

Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss your accessibility needs.

Make sure you’ve read the full FAQs document, and if you still have any questions please get in touch with our team.
