Thursday 6th June 2024Weekly Newsletter
Sunday 9 June…
is the 2nd Sunday after Trinity. Sung Mass, with Sunday School, begins at 10.30am.
This week two of our children will be baptised during Mass, which will make it a very special occasion. We’re really looking forward to welcoming their wider families and friends to the Annunciation. How wonderful that both Aaron and Kenji will be surrounded by their loved ones – and enveloped by the Love of God. Let us all say a prayer for them as the great day approaches. And let us all will marvel with them at the grace of God in Jesus Christ.
Fr Lincoln

Our third Confirmation Class is on Wednesday 12 June at Hampden Gurney School, 3.30pm – 4.30pm. These classes lead up to the visit of The Rt Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally DBE, Lord Bishop of London, who will confirm the candidates at our School Mass on Thursday 4th July at 10am. Do please pray for everyone being prepared for this sacrament.
FRIDAY 21 JUNE, 6PM: DISCOVER THE HISTORY OF THE DEAF COMMUNITY DURING WW1
Learn about the lives and sacrifices of the deaf community during WWI in the United Kingdom with the historian Peter Brown and the screening of a “see hear” episode on the war. There’s also an opportunity to view an exhibition discovering the history of the Church of the Annunciation's two WWI memorials and tracing the lives of people who worked in the church and whose lives were affected by the War. Doors open at 6pm with the event commencing at 6.30pm. The event is part of our ‘Sharing our Future’ project and has been made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. It is free for all to attend but please register to help us manage the numbers and prepare the space and food. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/discover-the-history-of-the-deaf-community-during-wwi-tickets-883957930967
SUNDAY 30 JUNE: HERITAGE FUND BLESSING OF WAR MEMORIAL
As part of our Heritage Fund Project, we will bless the restored Calvary War Memorial during a special event on Sunday 30th June, straight after Mass. The date marks 100 years since the memorial's original unveiling. The ceremony will be officiated by Revd (Capt). Thomas Sander, Rector of St. Giles in the Fields and Padre at The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment. In addition to the ceremony, we will be hosting an exhibition exploring the stories of the individuals remembered on our monument, as well as sharing the rich history of the church and the memorial itself. And the Victory Services Club will be providing us with delicious refreshments. It will be a wonderful community occasion! Please kindly confirm your attendance by RSVPing here to help with catering (https://forms.gle/8x35wGFn1AWgEgvGA) or by emailing Fr Lincoln.
SPARE PIANO: NEW HOME WANTED!
We are very fortunate to have been given a Baby Grand Concert Piano, which allows us to host so many wonderful concerts in church. It means that the Upright Piano (that we used to use for school assemblies) now needs a new home. Great for any budding pianists out there? Contact Fr Lincoln or Gavin Monk if you are interested!
MIDWEEK MASS
Following its pause when Fr Lincoln was recovering from his injury, our Midweek Mass has lots some of its previous momentum. It's a beautiful quiet service that is held each day in the Lady Chapel, which thereby creates space to pray for our local community and personal intentions at the middle of the day. If you have time during the week, do come along. 12.30pm, Monday-Friday.
PASTORAL SUPPORT
Contact Fr Lincoln if you would like pastoral support. If you’ve recently moved into the area, you might want your new home blessed. If you’re exploring the Christian faith, you might want to discuss it. If you’re sick, you might want to receive anointing with oil. Or you may carry a burden and need to make your confession. Whatever your circumstances, do get in touch. Your priest is here to support you.
GENEROUS GIVING
The Annunciation is a self-standing charity, with no historic trusts or legacies, and we receive no external funding beyond that which we can raise for ourselves. If you can commit to regular giving, please make use of the “Parish Giving Scheme” to support the work of our church, as this scheme enables us to receive Gift Aid payments straight away.
