To stem the coronavirus outbreak, European nations and even the United States are starting to adopt the wearing of masks in public, a practice long established in Asia. Until a few weeks ago, Asian tourists were the only mask-wearers in Paris, eliciting puzzlement or suspicion from French locals, or even hostility as the coronavirus began sweeping across Europe.
