Hilary Carr is a painter living in the Lune Valley, North Lancashire. She says:
Here are some examples of my work: studio paintings, plein air work and still life. I have used watercolours, oils and mixed media to paint all sorts of different subjects, from landscapes and townscapes to portraits and more abstract works. I've made many paintings of the local environment, especially the Lune Valley as it changes with the weather and the seasons. Recently I've been interested in painting flower subjects and their various states of decomposition, exploring how the power of nature manifests itself through time. The effect of light on colour and form interests me too. I try to paint tonally, and also to give the painting character through brush marks. A recurring theme has been the depiction of dereliction of one sort or another. I've made a lot of paintings of Ellel Crag, an abandoned property in the Forest of Bowland. The light comes through the rafters and makes fantastic shadows in this place marked by previous habitation. The past is pinned by my images to a particular moment. |
