2024 Season

As we approach the start of the 2024 cricket season - despite the never ending rain - we do so at Hunningham CC with renewed enthusiasm and a sense of anticipation following our close season move to the Cotswold Hills League

Having played our cricket in the Warwickshire Cricket League over the last 20+ years, enjoying various successes along the way, we felt that time was right for a change.

We will continue to run two Saturday league teams – the 1st XI playing in CHL Division 4, with the 2nd XI playing in CHL Division 5, both teams playing 40 over cricket. Hunningham CC will also compete in the inaugural CHL T20 league to be played either midweek or Sundays, fixtures as agreed with our opposition.

The league move should help our youth team players, who made great strides in 2023, with many playing senior cricket for the first time, to bridge the gap from youth cricket (20 overs) to senior cricket (40 overs). The T20 Cup provides another opportunity for those keen to play cricket who may be restricted by work or other commitments on Saturdays.

Likewise, our Youth section, will start their season in May 2024, with Friday nights being ‘club night’ with All Stars and Dynamo’s taking centre stage, and a chance for parents to have a well-earned drink at the club. Friday night BBQ’s will also return after successfully being re-launched in 2023.

The U13 and U15 age groups will once again compete in the Rugby and District League, with Tuesday and Thursday night fixtures respectively and older youth team players welcome to step up into the seniors. With both age groups hopefully having benefitted from indoor winter nets.

Over the Winter months the club committee have been busy, not only with the league move but also re-vamping our bar facility. Whilst many members have been involved in some way, special thanks go to Mark Maskell and Andy Heaven, who did the building and decorating work respectively. Also, with a new bar, comes a new bar manager, with Rich Pettifer taking the lead on pulling pints in 2024.

The new bar was officially re-opened at a well-attended quiz and darts night in March with special celebrity Jim Bowen from Bullseye fame making an appearance! Special thanks to Jon Pettifer and Pete Harrison for the evening’s entertainment, with more functions to follow during 2024 and hopefully a successful one on the cricket field too!

We are always looking to welcome new players and families to Hunningham CC. If you are looking to join please come to the club on either a Wednesday (senior practice night) or Friday evenings (club night) whereby a member of the committee should be available to speak to further.
