OHB Digital Solutions GmbH develops systems for monitoring the GNSS frequency bands as well as detection, classification and localization of intentional or unintentional interference sources.

GIDAS considerably improves save and robust operation of GNSS receivers, terminals, and GNSS-based applications.
Since Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are widely used in safety and value critical applications, GIDAS detects, classifies and localizes any GNSS interference signals and thus reduces the already existing threat of receiving worse GNSS accuracies or even denial of GNSS service.

GIDAS offers the capabilities for reliable detecting, classifying and localizing GNSS jamming and spoofing attacks.

The use of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and the associated permanent availability of position and precise time measurement as well become more and more a matter of course in many areas of everyday life. Due to the increasing number of applications and users, it is becoming more important to consider not only the opportunities, but also the weaknesses and risks of a satellite-based position determination. Currently, many users are unaware of the potential threats and impacts. In recent years, GNSS applications have become the target of interference attacks. Interference can cause considerable economic but also material damage, as interference signals can significantly influence the operation of GNSS. This can lead to degraded position accuracies or to a total failure of the positioning.


Interference Incidents are real and cause severe incidents:

  • Shutdown of navigation equipment at Newark airport
  • GNSS attacks of North Korea against South Korea
  • 117 incidents within 1 day at Kaohsiung airport in Taiwan
  • US drone forced to land by interference attack
  • 65m yacht drifted off course during field trials
  • Failure of emergency pagers, traffic management systems and ATMs in San Diego caused by US navy jamming
  • Detection, classification and localization of jammers in Austria

GIDAS monitors the GNSS L1/E1 frequency band and reliable detects and classifies intentional and unintentional interference sources. GIDAS consists of a high performance data processing unit including antenna and RF front-end, and a sophisticated software solution. GIDAS is able not only able to monitor GNSS-based position, velocity and time solutions, but monitors the received signal and baseband processing.


The system is composed of the following software modules:

  • Fully fledged software-defined GNSS radio
  • Interference detection including position, baseband and C/N0 monitoring
  • Classification including jammer and spoofing parameter estimation
  • Localization capabilities through synchronization of several GIDAS systems
  • Graphical User Interface
