Puppy sessions are 45 minutes long and are comprised of appropriate toileting (outside and rewarded!), feeding (when required) and playtime (remember this is also educational).
Once your puppy is fully covered by their vaccinations I can begin to add brief excursions into the wider world as well. This comes in the form of practising being calm while having their harness and lead put on, not rushing dangerously through doors and gates, walking on a loose lead and generally having positive experiences with whatever we happen to encounter.
When you first bring your new puppy home, it is great to take a week or two off to enjoy getting to know them and help them settle in. You will then likely have to go back to work or resume your normal routines and this could mean leaving your puppy for longer than they can hold their bladder. It can also lead to them spending quite a lot of time alone rather than having quality interactions that will help them learn and become happy being left to rest when you are not there. Every puppy is an innocent little blank slate just waiting to be moulded into an adult dog that will, we hope, be a joy to share our home and lives with. Every single experience they have is important to their development. Make sure the right people are helping your puppy learn what is expected of them during this critical time.
