In New York City alone, there are as many as 8,000 smoke shops selling unregulated and unsafe cannabis.
We know from first-hand experience that they are selling to our kids – and shockingly, none of our elected leaders are doing much to stop them. We are here to change that.
Working neighborhood by neighborhood, NY PACT is a grassroots coalition of parent advocates, educators, public health experts and community leaders working together to end our leaders’ indifference to illegal cannabis sales in New York.
We do not want to see anyone locked up for marijuana use or possession. But the thousands of storefronts that wantonly sell untested, untaxed and contaminated cannabis to our kids must be shut down, and it’s the responsibility of leaders like Governor Hochul, Mayor Adams, and Attorney General James to stop them.
A Landmark Law Gone Wrong
Despite a landmark law that created a pathway for regulated adult-use cannabis sales, in practice the reality has been a regulatory nightmare. The State has failed to build a regulated market that is capable of producing a safe supply of cannabis products large enough to meet demand. Seizing the opportunity to profit in the legal gray area between the licensed cannabis industry and the illicit market, thousands of smoke shops have taken over our communities as law enforcement claim their hands are tied.
