ABOUT PPS

Peak Performance Scotland is a fitness community group offering the best in outdoor exercise classes to improve physical fitness and general wellbeing. As you know, evidence shows that maintaining regular exercise can boost the immune system, improve metabolic health and reduce anxiety. It is for this reason that we are determined to help you to keep active as well as safe during the session whilst in the park and in our care.

We offer a warm welcome to members of all fitness levels and we promote a team ethos and we encourage and support all our members to Aspire, Endure and Achieve their goals whatever they may be.

The class is split into ability groups with each participant wearing a coloured vest to ensure the instructors and other team members know what level of fitness you are. Blue is for beginners, red is for intermediates and green is for advanced. Our instructors will talk to you before the class and they will recommend which group might suit you best. We have men and women at each level and of all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels. Each week you will make noticeable progress and will be able to see and feel your progress.

WHERE WE TRAIN

The North Inch is a large public park right on the edge of Perth. It overlooks the River Tay with Bells Sports Centre located on its western edge. The Inch is mostly flat and made up of public footpaths and grassy areas. Our sessions are designed around the natural surroundings of the North Inch such as small hilly areas, pathways, steps, benches, stone walls and even playground equipment to incorporate a variety of exercises and to ensure each session is different from the next. We give participants the space they need and make the most of the natural terrain. Sometimes equipment is included in a session to keep everyone interested, which can be anything from resistance bands to battle ropes not forgetting the proud mascot Big Bertha (you will have to come to a session to see her for yourself!). We keep our carbon footprint to a minimum and ensure that our use of the Inch does not impede any other park users.  We train outdoors in all weathers – sessions take place whatever the weather.

OUR SESSIONS

All our sessions are held in the great outdoors and are tailored to suit all abilities. Outdoor fitness sessions are renowned for being more intense than an indoor exercise class. Sessions give you a great cardio workout and will work all the major muscle groups including your core.

No two sessions are the same, and generally include an intense mix of aerobic, strength training and speed elements. It is a whole-body workout designed to improve your stamina, speed, agility and strength in a fun and interesting way. Sessions are very varied and can include running, sprinting, squats, sit ups, lunges, dips, core strengthening and fun games.

Each session is varied, to stop your body and mind from getting bored and are a great way to start and maintain a weight loss or fitness programme.

WHEN WE TRAIN

We run three hour-long sessions each week:  Tuesday at 6.30pm, Thursday at 6.30pm and Saturday at 8.00am. Classes start with a warm-up followed by at least 50 minutes of individual, pairs, and team exercises after which they end with a cool down and stretch. It’s best to arrive at our meeting point (Bells Sports Centre main car park) 10-15 minutes before the start time so that we can register your attendance and include you in the safety briefing. There are no changing facilities although there are public toilets in Bells Sports Centre.  Parking in the Bells Sports Centre carpark is free after 6pm and there is off street parking available nearby.

OUR INSTRUCTORS

Our male and female instructors are fully trained and qualified in the fitness industry. Each instructor is different and will challenge yet support you whatever your level of fitness. They will encourage you to train at your own pace and will give clear and succinct instructions to make sure all our members can train together in a supportive, fun and challenging workout.   They will ensure that you continue to be motivated so that you can get the most out of your workout. Our instructors will make sure you achieve your health and fitness goals. Your health & safety and enjoyment is paramount at each and every session.

TEAMWORK

Instructors and members are a friendly bunch and are always keen to welcome a new face. PPS workouts are tough and our Instructors will push you to exceed your boundaries. But they will, along with your teammates encourage and support you every step of the way. We make sure that each individual works to their own level of fitness within the group also excelling at each and every session.

MENTAL WELLBEING

Mental wellbeing is as important as ever and evidence shows that exercising in the great outdoors and fresh air is key to mental health and wellbeing.  Being active, learning new skills, connecting with other people and living in the moment are all important for your mental wellbeing.

COMMUNITY

The social side of Peak Performance Scotland is equally as important to us as the fitness. Our members make friends very quickly and enjoy year-round post-training coffees, breakfast, evening socials, family fun days, team cycles, and obstacle race events.

MEMBERSHIPS

Our members come in all shapes and sizes with hugely varied levels of fitness and currently aged between 18 and 67.  Our members are friendly and welcoming and will make sure you feel welcomed into the group and quickly become part of the team.  Our members are determined and dedicated and push themselves.  They aren’t afraid of hard work but will always ensure that other members are supported and encouraged to do their best.
