Starcross - The Estuary Village

The historic coastal village of Starcross lies at the mouth of the River Exe estuary between the County City of Exeter (8 miles) and the resort of Dawlish (4 miles). The village, famous for its connections to Brunel’s Atmospheric Railway experiment, is a well known sailing, fishing and yacht cruising centre.

We have two pubs, church, pharmacy, surgery, hairdresser, garden nursery, river restaurant, public golf course, caravan and camping site, two cafes and a bustling village store.

A short walk away is pretty Cockwood Harbour with its quayside pubs, and to the north the 14th Century Powderham Castle and grounds.

Starcross is situated amongst the beautiful Devon countryside with numerous footpaths and estuary walks to explore. Close to the wild expanses of Dartmoor to the west and the sandy beaches of Dawlish and Torbay to the south, it is an ideal centre for exploration of this wonderful county.

The village is situated on the main A379, has excellent train services from Starcross station to the West Country, Exeter and London Paddington, and a twice hourly bus service throughout the day to Newton Abbot and Exeter.

The village is on the South West Coast path and R2 National Cycle Path and, in the summer, connected to East Devon by the Starcross – Exmouth passenger and cycle ferry across the Exe River.

Starcross has 1800 friendly inhabitants who look forward to welcoming you to our thriving village.
