It makes for a very steady tool on the rest and against the work.

I had some trouble getting the profile I wanted on the Ultimate gouge. I did an asymmetric grind, left side more profiled for more aggressive back cutting or roughing and right side less so for finish cuts. It took me a bit to get it right, my fault, but I love it now. I do find the steel on the Ultimate Gouge holds an edge longer than my other tools and I can get it very, very sharp.

The Serious Camlock Handle works very well. I find it comfortable to the hand and it works well with your gouge.

Tool Material:

All Serious standard bowl and spindle gouges are machined from M2 high speed steel. M2 remains the most widely used steel for torsion springs worldwide. Our M2 gouges are heat treated in a vacuum furnace at 2150 degrees F, delivering tools with a HRC of 62 to 63.

M2 also offers tool flexibility to resist chipping and shattering from high speed catches, and abrasion resistance needed to turn hardwoods at high speeds.

Serious Scrapers are produced from A2 tool steel, heat-treated to 1750 degrees F, delivering tools with a HRC of 61 to 62.

Tool Design

The Serious scraper/handle system is the only one of its kind on the market today.

Serious Scrapers offer 9" -- not the traditional 5-7 inches -- of working tool length.

Serious bowl gouges are 16" long and up to 1" in diameter.

Serious gouges 3/4" and smaller feature tip-to-tip fluting.

All Serious gouges are 16" long and provide a minimum of 10" (& 13" maximum) of useable fluted tool length, far more than the standard 5" to 7".
