Welcome to the Terence O’Grady Social Club!

Recipients of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2016.

What is TOG?

The Terence O’Grady Club provides social and leisure activities for adults with a learning disability. Commonly known as TOG the club is named in memory of its founder, Dr Terence O’Grady, who was the Divisional Medical Officer of Health for the Lancashire County Division during the 1950s and held its first meeting on 19th April 1961.

Since that time and with the help of many dedicated people the club has developed into the great success it is today boasting well over of 100 members with more than 80 attending its Tuesday evening meetings at St Anne’s ARLFC, Higginshaw Road, Oldham OL1 3JY.

Affiliated to Royal Mencap, TOG is a registered charity No. 1049548 where members, supported by two professional club leaders, and a team of experienced volunteers, meet in a safe environment to socialise with friends.

On most club nights members are entertained by various artists, as well as having the opportunity to play pool, work on computers and take part in a range of other activities. A very popular Disco is held on the last Tuesday of every month.

Over the years the club has received many accolades including The Pride of Oldham Award, The Mencap Long Service Award and most prestigiously, in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June 2016, the Volunteers were awarded “The Queens Award for Voluntary Service”.

Weekly Activities

At the club we have space for dancing, playing board games, jig-saws, Pool and Air Hockey. We also have refreshments, an internet suite and some exciting games of bingo!

On most weeks we have live entertainment in our large hall; from singers to brass bands and clog dancers to bagpipes!

If that’s all a bit much we have a seperate quiet space too so you can relax.

Here at TOG we pride ourselves on enriching the lives of vulnerable members of our community. Through conversation, play, music and dance the club is a high point of the week for many of our members. Unfortunately we need help to keep providing the best possible support to our members. If you are in the fortunate position to be able to donate financially to the club we’d be eternally gratefull.
