Welcome to the U.S.S. Poseidon!

The USS Poseidon (NCC-42635) is a Miranda-class starship whose primary operation is to serve as an academy training ship for Starfleet Academy in the year 2396. The Poseidon undertakes various adventures and missions to further educate its crew on the operations and workings of modern-day Starfleet. The occasional and rare mission for escort duty or pirate interdiction may occur. Most of the missions will center around either scientific exploration or various side-missions culminating into one primary objective for the crew to accomplish.

Themes and situations on the USS Poseidon Sim are centered around enjoyment rather than strict requirement, allowing players to find themselves and their characters in appropriate situations for further character growth and development. The Poseidon is the perfect ship to place new characters to gain experience or reside older characters for continued development and enjoyment as they educate the younger generation. Players who fancy a relaxed playstyle and posting requirement will find the Poseidon Sim enjoyable and welcoming. The USS Poseidon Sim is a Nova-based sim with its own website and hosting.

The USS Poseidon has been in operation since Sunday July 21st, 2019. The current sim year for the USS Poseidon sim is 2396.

As of June 10th, 2020, Discord has become a recommended communication medium for this sim. Please look above in the websites header, "Poseidon Discord Server (New!)", for access to our Discord and for communication with the players and command staff. However, as of 2023, players may also join via website private messaging and may participate that way. The Captain, however, prefers the use of discord to communicate effectively.

We permit and welcome visitors (individuals who do not want to commit yet or simply want to observe) and as a rule do not pressure them in any capacity to join. Please notify the Command Staff of your visitor intention to attain the required role.

Positions on the U.S.S. Poseidon are generally open to all applications. We welcome all aspects and avenues of experience, and are eager to have you join us on our adventures. Since the U.S.S. Poseidon is essentially an active-duty training vessel - despite its mission perimeters - missions will generally include objectives that encourage character growth and exploration in order to flesh out players perspectives and worlds. Each post adds to the creation and legacy of the Poseidon, and each player is more than welcomed to use the Poseidon to hopefully reach for better, more prestigious ships and positions within Theta Fleet!

If this unique aspect of Star Trek RPG interests you, feel free to apply to join today!

» State of the Sim - April & May 2024

Posted on Monday May 13th, 2024 @ 8:38am by Captain Franklin Johnson in General News

Hello Crew!

Firstly, Congratulations to Lt Cmdr Rachel Williams, our ships Chief Engineering Officer, for winning the Writer of the Month award for the month of April in Theta Fleet!

Nomination reason:
"Each time they're called to post, despite their busy schedule with running other sims and being on many more, they always put the best effort forward and add that creative touch that provides excellent filler and context for JP's so we can all post! They have also been instrumental over the years in providing and creating lore! Thank you!"

Congratulations, Rachel! You earned it! You're an amazing and dedicated simmer and I am happy to have you on the Poseidon with us on our continued journey!

Moving on, April was a good transition month for us and as we move strongly into May, let's focus on keeping a positive flow going! You're all doing amazing and activity is at acceptable levels. Good work! We're moving forward as expected and I am very pleased with the positive flow of the sim as it is.

We'll likely spend some time at Andoria to finish out some away missions then move on from there to the next planet, which should be Vulcan. Here's a preview of our planned course:

After Vulcan, we'll head to the planet Axanar (approximately 7 LY's away from Vulcan) to pick up farming equipment. We'll then proceed 13 LY's to Starbase 12 to deliver equipment and reload spirits/alcoholic beverages tom planet Argelius, just 15 LY's away from Starbase 12.

Moving on, the USS Poseidon has transitioned as the lead ship of Task Group Area 51-C Banshee to the lead ship of Task Group Area 51-D Yokai. You can find where the USS Poseidon sits on this page here: (https://www.thetafleet.net/sims.html). Down near the bottom, on the right, you'll see Area 51-D and a list of ships the USS Poseidon leads as its Task Group Flagship.

Keep up the good work!

Sincerely,
Captain Franklin Johnson

» State of the Sim - April 2024 (A Plea for Help)

Posted on Monday April 1st, 2024 @ 11:32am by Captain Franklin Johnson in Sim Announcement

Hello Crew of the Poseidon and Oceanus,

This message is crafted for both sims out of necessity for time. I apologize sincerely for my lackluster showing as a CO in managing both sims, but I've been waiting patiently for both crew to show as well as time to appropriate itself within my busy schedule. I appreciate you all in your patience with me and the sim. As to why I am crafting a message for both sims, it is with the unfortunate reality I face as a CO and GM of two sims that I announce the status of Sam Perkins on the USS Poseidon, who also plays David Forbes on the USS Oceanus. As you all are aware, Sam/David has been an invaluable and instrumental part of our sims. Three or so weeks ago he became ill and hasn't been heard from since.

I do not know whether he is alive or healthy. I do not know any status of him after repeated attempts of digging and trying to ascertain something to confirm his living status. For all I know, Sam could be enduring a very hard and particularly difficult part of his life and needs to be around family. I have never taken Sam as someone to drop something without notification, but life happens, and it is in my best interest - and I hope yours - to imagine that he is recovering and/or away from the computer dealing with issues. That stated, his status on both sims will be a permanent LOA until we hear from him. If by the mid-half of 2024 there has been no news, I will reluctantly be forced to retire his characters and deactivate his accounts.

Normally I wouldn't make an announcement for any one such person across two sims. Sam, however, is an exception along with Puppy/Phoebe on the USS Poseidon, due in large part to their invaluable assistance in both starting up the USS Oceanus Sim, but also taking the lead in helping me administrate background tasks. Sam/David is a good friend, a close friend, and literally helped make things run when I was absent most of the time (along with Phoebe, thank you!). This state, his absence has revealed the extent of my busy nature at work and in life, for that I apologize on my behalf. Sam helped glue our plans together, was instrumental in keeping things running, and was a huge motivator for us all. I sincerely hope and wish he is well and okay and, hopefully, will be able to return soon.

Moving forward, I will be working over the next few weeks to finalize plans on events and get things back in motion. I apologize to both the Poseidon and Oceanus communities for my absences due to real life. I had a very sturdy background support staff in place as as this message conveys, a huge cog in that mechanism is now missing. This has hurt us, a lot, and while I miss my dear friend and wish for his return, I must react and act in my best capacity as CO and GM of both communities to get back on track.

With this stated, I am looking for volunteers to take accountability and help me manage these communities. I have Phoebe and Kanaka on the Poseidon but am looking for more motivational sources to keep things on task. Sam was a critical role in that and we desperately need a temporary/permanent replacement. For the Oceanus, I need a new XO temporarily or permanently, and need someone to help me manage things. If any player is interested, please either DM me on Discord, tag me in the channels, or PM me on the websites to volunteer.

I need help. I am forced to realize that my largest source of help may never return. If anyone is willing to take their place, however temporary or permanent it may be, please step up.

Thank you all,
Captain Franklin Johnson

USS Poseidon

» Statement of Ultimatum

Posted on Monday March 11th, 2024 @ 9:50am by Captain Franklin Johnson in Sim Announcement

This will be posted to both the *Poseidon* and *Oceanus* sims.

Hello crew,

I realize that by now with the extended reports form several of my European players that iFastnet appears to not be a trusted source in Europe. In America, however, things are different. I'm not sure of the specifics, but I have registered and personally been in constant contact with iFast over this certificate issue and it has long since been resolved. The Oceanus and Poseidon websites have valid and active security certificates and are secure. However it appears I'm still getting reports of players not wanting to join on either because one browser or another doesn't approve of the sites.

I understand your security concerns and respect that. I will not force you to be active on my sims over that. I will however give you an ultimatum. This ultimatum is not aimed at anyone specifically and is intended as a general statement of finality.

I have, personally, as both Webmaster and Owner of these domains and sims solved this issue on multiple occasions. I have, personally, re-registered and conducted dialogue with iFast to sort out issues. I am in no way devaluing anyone and their concerns and to that end, here is my ultimatum.

*If you are unable to find a workaround to participate on my sims specifically because of this issue and do not feel comfortable with seeing websites blocked because of misidentified issues, then you are free to leave. I will not think badly about you and respect your decision.*

I absolutely respect being safety and security conscious. I encourage you to contact me so we can find an adequate solution to your issue, one on one, as one player has recently done. Anyone else unable to access the websites or feeling uncomfortable to do so, I have already shown extensive screenshots of valid SSL certificates and registered domains to prove that the issue is on your end. This is not an iFast issue. This is not my issue. This is your browsers, your regions, and your issue that needs to be resolved from your end.

Resolutions include using other browsers, deleting cookies and cache to free space and allow your browser to see the valid certificates, or as a last resort you can start the process for departing the sim. I will work with you on your decisions, but I can no longer accept this as a valid excuse seeing as the previously mentioned steps have already sorted this issue for several people.

I will work with you if you need my help.

Thank you sincerely,
Captain Franklin Johnson
Commanding Officer
USS Poseidon

Howdy All!

First and foremost I wish a hearty congratulations to our very own Commander Kanaka Shakura for being awarded the Writer of the Month for February 2024 for Theta Fleet! Commander Shakura has been a long time, very skilled, very detailed writer for the Poseidon and is by far the best candidate for this award. I am very pleased my recommendation went through, and I hope that Kanaka sees this as a validation of their hard work, efforts, and authenticity put into their work! Excellent work, my friend! You deserve this!

Moving on, the sim has entered a bit of a downturn due to many of us being busy. I am still waiting on tags for several threads to be completed and when that is done, we can move forward. If by next weekend on Friday the 15th no progress is made, I'll do what I did for the Oceanus and force complete. I understand the Poseidon has its own pace so I'm respecting that. I appreciate you all for your hard work!

Keep up the good work everyone! Not much else to add to this except how much I appreciate you all!

Captain Franklin Johnson
Commanding Officer
USS Poseidon

Hey Folks,

I'd like to first start off by having a huge CONGRATULATIONS to our very own Lieutenant Commander Ky'la De'Lenn! Ky'La is on multiple sims along with this one and serves on both sims I own and operate. They are a very dedicated, passionate, and committed player who has over the years displayed awesome potential for community and professional teambuilding. They are, in my opinion, the bar in which is displayed acceptable crew-like behavior and dedication and have continued to display through-out the years! Recently, however, they've endured some medical setbacks that while I will not go into, have indeed been relayed to me personally. Ky'La, to me, is a very good friend and person that has built this sim with the community over its existence. It is my greatest honor, therefore, to congratulate them for making Player of the Month for January 2024 for Theta Fleet!

I submitted Ky'La for consideration because of their hardships they have endured and, despite these hardships, the constant positivity and overall dedication displayed to the community. I could not be here in this sim, with this attitude and positivity, without players like Ky'La who have taught me to appreciate the passion and - at times - differences of opinions that help shape our sims and communities. From the bottom of my heart, Ky'La, thank YOU very much and sincerest congratulations! I hope your health continues to improve and we have the honor of you being among us for many years to come!

Moving on, the USS Poseidon was one of three sims awarded the Bronze Unit of Distinction for Area 51 in Theta Fleet! This demonstrates to the fleet our dedication as a community of friendly, loving, and passionate players and solidifies the sims significance thanks to YOUR contributions! The Poseidon Community would not even be a community without players like yourselves and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for making it, helping to make it, and helping to create within it the future of our community!

Lastly, we are entering the final phases of our start-up JP which has had a few wrenches thrown into it! The JP, "Onward to Andoria", is turning out to be fantastic fun and I hope to see this as a common template for the future! Keep up the good work everyone!

Sincerely & With Appreciation,
Captain Franklin Johnson
