Sparrow to Challenge App Store Rules

Sparrow Mail is growing on me. The simplified email client for mac reminds me of my beloved Twitter application, with it’s clean columns and pretty square photo icons next to the names in my inbox. Plus it’s got menu bar notifications, which alert you to new messages without your having to access the dock. Sometimes it’s the little things.

This week the plot thickens with Sparrow, who is apparently in early development on an iPhone version of their client. This is significant because Apple doesn’t currently allow apps that duplicate the iPhone’s functionality, which would include mail. Sparrow’s developers are hoping they’ll get it approved anyway, since Apple’s been willing to bend on the web browser apps like Opera. I don’t think any of us are over the moon about Apple’s iPhone Mail offering, so I’m pulling for the Sparrow team.  If you’re curious about trying something new, give Sparrow Lite a try for free and see what you think.
